PATCHOGUE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's lacrosse team lost 18-8 to the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles in Skyline Conference action Tuesday evening from Danzi Stadium. With the loss, Old Westbury (2-8) moves to 1-2 in conference play while the Golden Eagles (8-3) now stand at 3-0.
Tori Gregson broke the scoring ice with a goal just 13 seconds into play to give the Golden Eagles an early advantage before going on to score three of her side's first four goals inside the game's first five minutes.
Gabriella Rayan put the Panthers on the board at 12:24 with her first career tally, but two more goals by St, Joseph's-L.I. courtesy of Heather Ferchland and Karalyn Tetelman extended the away side's lead to 6-1.
Sara Bey scored Old Westbury's second goal, and tied a program record for goals in the process. Bey's 22nd goal of the season extended her goal-scoring streak to six games, although St. Joseph's (L.I.) would eventually carry a 7-2 lead into halftime.
Jordan Schildt opened Old Westbury's second-half scoring at 28:17 with her first goal of the season to make it an 8-3 game. Following a pair of Ferchland goals, Bey then set a single season program scoring record with her 23rd goal with 24:56 remaining in the half to spark a 4-1 Panther run. St. Joseph's (L.I.) added another score to go ahead 11-4 before
Meaghan Haber answered with consecutive goals and Bey added another goal to record her fourth hat trick of the season. Bey's four hat tricks are both all-time and single season program records. The Golden Eagles responded with seven straight goals until Maria Dischely ripped the ropes with 51 seconds left for her 12th goal of the season. Dischely's goal extended her scoring streak to seven games, which tied a program record with teammate
Courtney Gallagher.
Bey also tacked on a game-high five draw controls to her season total to set a single season record with 37, passing Gallagher's mark of 36 from 2013. Bey added five ground balls and two caused turnovers while Schildt and
Caitlin Thomas each registered five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Dischley contributed four ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls.
Jackie Cartagena (2-8) added eight saves in net for Old Westbury while Courtney Wickline (8-3) added six saves to record the Golden Eagles' victory.
Ferchland, Gregson and Ela Igdeler each scored three goals to pace St. Joseph's (L.I.) offensively. Igdeler controlled five draws and dished out three assists.
St. Joseph's (L.I.) edged Old Westbury in shots (29-17), draw controls (18-10) and ground balls (27-23).
