FARMINGDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's lacrosse team continued to get consistent scoring out of Maria Dischley and Courtney Gallagher despite losing a 12-2 Skyline Conference road decision to the Farmingdale State Rams on Thursday afternoon. The loss sent Old Westbury (3-10) to 1-4 in conference play while the Rams (14-1) improved to 5-0.
Dischley netted her 14th goal of the season to put Old Westbury on the board with 9:03 remaining in the opening half to make it a 6-1 game. Farmingdale State held an 8-1 lead at the half as eight different players scored. Nicole Marzocca assisted on three of the Rams' opening five goals, which also saw her tally a goal of her own just 2:50 into play for an early 3-0 advantage.
Four other Rams scored to open the second half before Gallagher rattled the back of the cage with her 14th goal of the season. Gallagher's goal closed out the scoring as the Panthers held the Rams off the board for the final 18:50.
Dischley and Gallagher both extended their scoring streaks to a program record 10 games. Dischley also added a team-high two draw controls and four shots, two of which were on target. Panther goalie Jackie Cartagena (3-10) made four stops and scooped up three ground balls while Sara Bey, Christine Fernandez and Jessica Walker each followed with two.
Georgia Kalamidas earned the win by making one save as the Rams held a 19-7 advantage in shots. Christy Thoden controlled a game-high nine draws and two caused turnovers while Alyssa Handel and Brittany Rosino each picked up three ground balls.
MOUNT SAINT VINCENT DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the field for a Skyline Conference road battle on Saturday (Apr. 12) against the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins. Start time is slated for 5p.m. from Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, New York.
