OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team split a Senior Day Sunday doubleheader with the Staten Island Dolphins from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Staten Island took game one with a 9-1 final before the Panthers roared back to take a 3-1 finale.  With the split, Old Westbury moves to 7-14 on the season while sending Staten Island to 10-7.

Prior to opening pitch, seniors Jennifer Jean (2011-14), Samantha Howley (2011-14) and Mudeline Derisma (2014) were honored with the annual Senior Day Ceremony for their dedication to Old Westbury Athletics.

In the opener, Staten Island struck first with a pair of leadoff singles in the fourth inning followed by an infield grounder that scored Brittany Smith for the games initial run.

Old Westbury answered right back in the home half of the fourth with Jean's seventh triple of the season, which set the plate for Corrine Protasiewicz, who delivered home Jean off an RBI single.

Jacqueline Cautela put the Dolphins up 2-1 with a two-out RBI single in the fifth inning.

Staten Island scored again in the sixth off a throwing error by catcher Corrine Protasiewicz for a 3-1 advantage.

The Panthers threatened in the sixth, loading the bases, but Staten Island starter Cautela induced a pair of infield outs to escape out of the jam to strand three Panthers on base.

Staten Island put the game away in the seventh with six unearned runs on six hits and one error to grab a 9-1 victory.

Jean led the Panther offense with a 2-for-3 game at the plate to register her ninth multi-hit game of the season.

Nicole DeCola (5-9) fanned one and was charged with Old Westbury's loss after surrendering nine runs (three earned) on 15 hits in her 10th complete game outing of the season.

Cautela (7-3) went the distance for Staten Island by striking out seven and served up one run on five hits and two walks.

Christina Tufano (3-4, RBI, R) and Maxine Jasko (3-4, 2 R, RBI) led the way with three hits apiece for Staten Island.

In the finale, Staten Island broke the scoring in the fourth frame with Danielle Locke scoring off Jasko's single for a 1-0 lead.

Jean answered back for the Panthers with a two-out single to score Gabriella Valdes to tie the game up in the fifth.  Alexis Ferrero then followed with a two-run single to give Old Westbury a 3-1 lead at the end of five.

Staten Island threatened with three straight singles in the sixth off starter Emily McKay before DeCola was then called in for relief work and induced a groundout to escape out of the inning to solidify the victory.

McKay (2-4) logged 5.2 innings to earn her second win of the season, scattering eight hits while allowing one run.  DeCola notched her first career save with 1.1 innings of one-hit ball.

Alexandra Conanan (0-1) was tabbed with Staten Island's loss, giving up three runs on eight hits.

Ferrero (3-3, 2 RBI) finished with her first career three-hit game while Jean (2-3, RBI, R) added her 10th multi-hit game of the season.

Brittany Smith (2-3, 2 SB), Tufano (2-3), Locke (2-2, R) and Jasko (2-3) each collected multi-hit game in defeat for Staten Island.
