TROY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team concluded its Skyline Conference schedule Friday afternoon with 8-1 and 6-5 road losses to the Sage Gators from Robinson Field. Old Westbury (9-16) moved to 2-12 in conference play while Sage (18-10) stands at 8-4.
Game One: Sage 8, Old Westbury 1
Hillary Faas' RBI single drove in Kristen Beikirch to break the scoring ice in the first inning for a 1-0 Sage lead. Samantha Woitkoski doubled Sage's advantage in the second inning with an RBI single that scored Courtney Laughlin for the initial game-winning run. Sage tacked on four more runs in the second and two in the fourth to jump out to an 8-0 lead.
Jennifer Jean answered in the fifth with Old Westbury's lone run, singling home Delana Murray to close out the scoring books.
Nicole DeCola (6-10) allowed eight runs (six earned) on 12 hits and two walks to take Old Westbury's loss. Katie Kovage (10-6) tossed six innings to earn Sage's win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four.
Jean's (1-3, RBI) RBI single extended her hitting streak to six games while Murray (2-4, R) and Gabriella Valdes (2-4) added multi-hit games for the Panthers.
Sage's Faas (3-4, 2 RBI) led all hitters with three hits while Meghan Roullier (2-4, 2 R, RBI) and Frankie Pearson (2-3) followed with two.
Game Two: Sage 6, Old Westbury 5
Jean continued to produce in the finale, opening the scoring books with an RBI double to score Valdes in the first inning. Sage answered in the bottom of the frame with a Beikirch solo home run. Faas would then put the Gators up in the fourth with a solo homer for a 2-1 lead. Valdes responded in the fifth for Old Westbury with an RBI double that scored Murray to tie the game at two all. Sage jumped ahead by three at the end of five innings with a Kovage RBI single and Jessica Adams' two-run double. Old Westbury got even in the sixth when a two-run error by right fielder Lauren Cooney scored Katie Rizzo and Alexis Ferrero followed by an error by first baseman Laughlin allowed Alyssa Czarnecki to score the game-tying run.
Sage jumped ahead for good in the sixth inning with Roulier's two-out RBI single to score Beikirch for the game-winning run. Old Westbury put two on base to threaten in the seventh, but a Czarnecki strikeout would end the Panthers chance of a comeback.
Valdes (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) and Jean (2-4, 2B, RBI) each produced multi-hit games to lead the Panthers while Murray (1-4, R) added a pair of stolen bases.
Beikirch (3-4, HR, SB) led Sage with three hits and Faas (2-3, HR, 2 R, BB), Kovage (2-4, RBI, R) and Adams (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI) followed with two hits apiece to outhit the Panthers, 11-6.
DeCola (6-11) tossed six innings and was dealt Old Westbury's loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and two walks while fanning three batters.
Erika Daigle (8-4) pitched well enough to earn the win for Sage, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks to go along with nine strikeouts in seven innings of work.
