@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Sarah Lawrence With 5-0 Conference Win

NEW YORK, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team captured a 5-0 Skyline Conference road victory over the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons on Saturday evening from Randall's Island Park Field #10.  The win leveled Old Westbury's (5-3-0) conference record to 1-1-0, while sending the Gryphons (0-4-0) off to an 0-1-0 start.

Dominick Guidice broke the scoring ice at 4:26, netting what proved to be his second career game-winning goal for Old Westbury.  Anthony Echevarria crossed his team-leading fifth assist of the season to Guidice on the opening goal to make it a 1-0 game.  Guidice then scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season after receiving a feed from Jorge Rodriguez at 32:25 to double Old Westbury's advantage, making it a 2-0 game.  Old Westbury held an 8-3 advantage in shots to take a 2-0 lead into the half.

Old Westbury picked up right where they left off, tacking on three goals in the final 45 minutes to secure the conference win.  Guidice slotted his fourth-assist of the season to Brian Schanel at 52:06 for a 3-0 lead.  Evhevarria then found Michael Covas for his first-career goal at 71:47 to build a four-goal cushion.  Echevarria closed out the scoring books at 79:58 with his second goal of the season, blasting a free kick from 30 yards out past Gryphon goalie Nikos Efstratudakis for a 5-0 final. 

Panther goalie Kelvin Rivera (1-0-0) captured the clean sheet, making three saves to earn his first-career win. 

Efstratudakis (three goals allowed, two saves) and James Berry (two goals allowed, two saves) split Sarah Lawrence's loss in goal for the Gryphons.

In the end, Old Westbury held the advantage in shots (18-4), shots on goal (10-3) and corner kicks (5-3).   


STATEN ISLAND DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to non-conference action on Tuesday (Sept. 23) against the visiting Staten Island Dolphins from Panther Park at 4 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
