OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team outscored the visiting Farmingdale State Rams 42-30 in the second half to claim Thursday's 69-61 Skyline Conference victory on NABC Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers game from Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (5-10) improves to 5-3 in conference play while sending the Rams (3-12) to 1-7.

Farmingdale State took control of the game early, using a 9-2 run from 17:04 to 12:49 to take a 15-8 lead.  Old Westbury kept its cool and chipped away the rest of the half, eventually heading into the break tied at 29 off a 9-1 run to close out the final 3:27.

Old Westbury took its first lead of the game off Jaquan Potter's three pointer with 19:24 remaining for a 32-31 lead.  Farmingdale State answered with a triple of its own by Trey Kinard to take its final lead with 18:53 left (34-32).  Potter replied with a trio of made free throws at the 18:13 mark to give Old Westbury the lead for good, 35-34.  Floyd Leroy's layup with 8:08 remaining sparked an 11-3 Panther run to put Old Westbury up by 15 points (64-49).  Renaldo Walters' triple with 5:09 showing on the second-half clock capped Old Westbury's big run for its largest lead of the game.  Farmingdale State attempted a late comeback with an 8-2 run to pull within seven points (66-59) with 37 second left, but were unable to overcome the deficit.

Mark Gjonlekaj scored nine of his game-high 15 points in the second half to finish 5-of-13 from the field with five rebounds and a game-high three steals.  Walters and Leroy followed with 13 and 10 points off the bench, respectively, while Leroy grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds to go with two steals and one block.  Potter and Omari Trebuse each added 10 points.  Luckens Victor swatted a career-high four blocks as the Panthers totaled a season-best nine blocks for the game.

Kinard's 12 points paced the Rams and Marques Underwood pulled-down a game-high 12 rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 31.6 percent from the field (18-57), 30.8 percent from three-point range (8-26) and 67.6 percent from the free-throw line (25-37) while Farmingdale State hit 31.9 percent from the floor (23-72), 20 percent from beyond the arc (2-10) and 59.1 percent from the charity stripe (13-22).  Farmingdale State won the boards battle, 58-42, scoring just 12 points off 29 offensive rebounds, compared to Old Westbury's 20 points off 18 offensive pull-downs.  Old Westbury also scored 24 points off 23 Ram miscues.

Coaches from Old Westbury and Farmingdale State all sported sneakers with their suits to raise awareness about the fight against cancer, and the American Cancer Society to show support for the NABC Coaches vs. Cancer® program.  By wearing sneakers, participating coaches help raise awareness about cancer and the importance that nutrition and physical activity play in reducing one's risk of the disease. Additionally, this event helps promote the American Cancer Society as a place for people facing cancer to turn for free information, day-to-day help, and emotional support.

Old Westbury collected new/used shoes and sneakers at Thursday's game, which were then donated to Shoes For All (SFA), which helps families, mothers, fathers and children who have tremendous financial problems here in the United States.  Shoes For All facilitates the collection of unused shoes and distributes them to those in desperate need of foot wear. SFA's overall goal is simple, if you don't want to walk in your shoes then give them to someone who does.  For additional information about SFA, please visit their website by clicking here.    .
