@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer battles Maritime in final regular-season home match

Old Westbury travels to Sage for a Skyline Conference showdown on Saturday

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) An early goal and missed opportunities were too much for the SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team to overcome as the Panthers dropped a 1-0 Skyline Conference decision in their final regular-season home game Wednesday afternoon to the Maritime Privateers.  The loss snaps the Panthers' six-game unbeaten streak.

Old Westbury (4-8-2, 4-2-2 Skyline) generated numerous scoring chances throughout the game, but could not find the finishing touch to get on the board.    

The Privateers (10-6-0, 4-4-0 Skyline) got on the board in the seventh minute when Sheick Wattara fed Renato Chira-Farfan in the box for the game-winning goal past a diving Panther goalie Peter Sicardi.

Old Westbury turned up the pressure in the second half by firing eight shots during the final 45 minutes, but were unable to score the equalizer.       

Sicardi (4-8-2) made five saves while Karl Weber (10-6-0) stopped four shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season.  

Maritime finished with the edge in shots (16-12), shots on goal (6-4) and corner kicks (8-1). 

SAGE GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens its three-game road trip that will close out the regular season starting Saturday (Oct. 24) when they travel to take on the Sage Gators in a Skyline Conference showdown.  Start time is set for 1 p.m. from Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany.
