@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball tangles with CCNY

Old Westbury continues non-conference play Thursday at Brooklyn

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball fell to the CCNY Beavers, 3-1, Tuesday night in non-conference action from Clark Athletic Center.  CCNY (6-26) claimed the opening set, 25-17, and Old Westbury (5-15) evened the match with a 25-20 second-set win before the Beavers came back to take the next two stanzas, 25-16 and 25-21.   

In set one, Chelsey Hoffman served six-straight points to give Old Westbury an early 10-4 lead.  CCNY answered with an 8-0 run as Pui-Yan Yu rattled off seven-consecutive service points to put the Beavers ahead, 21-14.

Sofia Goris served-up one of her two aces on the day to open the second set for the Panthers.  Old Westbury later used a 9-0 run to jump out to a 16-6 lead.

Old Westbury scored the opening points in set three to take a 2-0 lead.  CCNY responded with 10-straight service points by Irishvarsh Iyyadurai to set the tone as the Beavers claimed set's three and four.  

Hoffman finished with 15 assists, nine digs, seven kills and four aces to drive the Panthers on both ends of the court.  Brown followed with eight kills to lead Old Westbury in that department for the 16th straight game.  Brown also scooped up a match-high 18 digs in addition to dishing out five assists.  

Angela Ubanwa nailed down a match-high 18 kills on 45 swings to go along with 11 digs in guiding the Beavers to victory.  Cassidy Iannariello captained the offense with 30 assists.  Iyyadurai paced CCNY with 16 digs and four aces.  


BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels Thursday (Oct. 29) to take on the Brooklyn Bulldogs at 6 p.m. in non-conference action from West Quad Center.
