Old Westbury remains on the road for Saturday’s non-conference battle with John Jay

BROOKLYN --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.comChelsey Hoffman led SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball with five kills, but the Brooklyn Bulldogs earned a 3-0 victory over the Panthers on Thursday evening in non-conference action at West Quad Center.

Hoffman notched her five kills in 25 attempts to go along with 12 assists, two aces and six digs for Old Westbury (5-16).  Behind her was Brittany Buchanan and Shanayia Lloyd, who posted four kills apiece.  Sofia Goris led the Panthers with five aces.  Lloyd and Rayn Brown each contributed a team-leading eight digs.

Leading Brooklyn (7-18) was Christolia Butler, who nailed down a game-best 12 kills.  Crystal Wu's 24 assists captained the offense.  Kennedy Hui scooped up a match-high 11 digs as Brianna Montana and Rosalia Xue followed with 10 apiece.

Brooklyn opened the night by taking a 25-20 decision in the opening set.  The Panthers jumped out to a 4-2 lead before Brown's service error sparked Brooklyn's 5-0 run to take the lead for good.  Brooklyn later used a 5-0 spurt to extend its lead to 23-15.

Goris served up Brooklyn with an ace to open the second set.  Brooklyn scored five-straight points to answer, and later used a 7-1 run to grow its lead to 10 (23-13).  Old Westbury would not go down quietly as they rattled off six-consecutive points to close the gap to 23-19 before Brooklyn tallied the next two points for a 25-19 set win.

A 7-1 stretch was all Brooklyn needed in the third game as they clinched the match with a 25-16 victory.
