Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball senior guard Clarissa Gallagher scored her 1,000th career point with 15 seconds left in the opening half in front of the home crowd of Wednesday's Skyline Conference battle against the visiting Farmingdale State Rams.  Old Westbury took a 28-25 lead into the half but were unable to hold off a late charge by the Rams as the Panthers lost a 65-61 decision from Clark Athletic Center.  The loss moved Old Westbury (10-12) to 3-6 in conference play while the Rams (14-8) remained perfect at 9-0 on the season.

Jasmine Robinson led the way for Old Westbury with 22 points (7-16 FG, 4-7 3FG, 4-4 FT), five assists (one turnover), five rebounds and four steals.  Chloe Mellon followed with 16 points (7-13 FG), nine rebounds and a career-high seven blocked shots.  Gallagher finished with eight points, nine rebounds and three assists while Olivia Ilardi added 10 points (2-3 3FG) and eight rebounds.  Raven Pentz chipped in with a game-high seven assists to go with six rebounds and two steals.

Andrea Desvignes' 22 points, 11 rebounds and five steals to pace the Rams to the win.  Nicole Lanteri had 15 points and eight rebounds while Jeannette Spillane registered 13 rebounds and six steals.

Farmingdale State took control of the game early by jumping out to a 5-0 lead.  Chloe Mellon answered for Old Westbury by scoring nine of the Panthers' next 21 points.  Old Westbury's 21-6 run put the home team ahead by 10 points (21-11) with 7:44 left in the half.  Farmingdale State then responded with a 10-3 run to pull within one point (24-23) with 2:57 remaining.  Old Westbury scored four of the final six points to close out the half to take a three-point lead into the break.

Old Westbury extended its lead to six points off a pair of Robinson free throws at 16:47 for a 35-29 advantage.  Down 36-31 with less than 16 minutes remaining, Farmingdale State took a five-point lead with 13:17 showing on the second-half clock off an 11-1 run to grab the lead for good.  Moments later, Ilardi sank a layup to bring Old Westbury within one point (44-43) with 9:47 left.  Farmingdale State twice made it a seven-point game in the finale eight minutes.  Old Westbury remained cool as Gallagher converted a pair of free throws with 49 seconds left to make it a two-point game (58-56).  Down 62-56, Ilardi connected on a triple to make it a three-point game with nine seconds remaining.  After a pair of Lanteri made free throws, Robinson came back with a jumper with two seconds remaining.  Desvignes' free throw then gave the Rams a four-point lead with one second left to close out the scoring.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 31 percent from the field (22-71), 34.8 percent from three-point range (8-23) and 69.2 percent from the free-throw line (9-13) while Farmingdale State knocked down 25 percent from the floor (20-80), 30.8 percent from beyond the arc (4-13) and 70 percent from the charity stripe (21-30).  Farmingdale State won the boards battle, 62-50, scoring 12 points off 24 second-chance points.  Old Westbury scored 14 points off 20 Ram turnovers.
