OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team captured a convincing 95-89 Senior Night victory over the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles in Skyline Conference action Thursday evening from Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (11-13) climbs to 11-6 in conference play while sending the Golden Eagles' (16-9) league record to 13-5.

Prior to the start of the game, Omari Trebuse (2011-15), Nat Vaughan (2012-15), Dom Bostick (2013-15), Floyd Leroy (2013-15) and Jaquan Potter (2013-15) were honored for their dedication to Old Westbury Athletics with the annual Senior Night Ceremony.

Mark Gjonlekaj tied a career-high with 29 points (10-15 FG) of the bench, sinking 5-of-7 from three-point territory to go along with 10 rebounds and four steals (tied career-high) to register his second-career double-double in leading the Panthers to victory.  Leroy racked up 15 points (5-10 FG), eight rebounds and nabbed a career-high four steals.  Luckens Victor followed with 10 points and Vaughan swept away a career-best four steals.  Reynaldo Walters chipped in with nine points, nine assists (career high) and four steals (tied career-high).

Sean McCarthy connected on 5-of-9 from deep to finish with a team-leading 25 points for St. Joseph's (L.I.).  Fernando Vasquez (18 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals), Andy Laurent (17 points, 2 blocks), Nick Gallina (10 points, 7 assists) and Brady Colucci (10 points) all scored in double figures.

Bostick's free throw 1:08 into play broke the scoring ice to spark an 8-2 Panther run for the early lead.  St. Joseph's (L.I.) answered with an 8-0 spurt to take a brief 10-8 edge.  Moments later, Laurent connected on a jumper to put St. Joseph's (L.I.) up 15-14 for their final lead of the game before Gjonlekaj's triple put the Panthers ahead 17-15.  Kaleem Edwards' layup at 7:24 ignited an 8-0 run for the Panthers to grab a 34-24 lead.  Both teams played even for the remainder of the half as Old Westbury took a 43-34 advantage into the break.

Old Westbury pushed its lead to 14 points (50-36) with 18:32 remaining off a quick 7-0 run.  Trebuse later connected from deep to extend the lead to 16 points (57-41) at the 14:36 mark.  St. Joseph's (L.I.) then used a 15-2 run to get back into the game to make it a 59-56 contest.  Gjonlekaj would score eight of Old Westbury's next 11 points as part of an 11-1 run to go back up by 13 (70-57) with 9:17 showing on the second-half clock.  St. Joseph's (L.I.) closed the gap to three points with 13 seconds left off an 8-2 run, but the deficit proved to be too much as the Panthers made 3-of-4 from the line in the closing seconds to secure the six-point win.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 44.9 percent from the field (35-78), 33.3 percent from three-point land (9-27) and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line (16-28) while the Golden Eagles hit 41.2 percent from the floor (26-68), 43.3 percent from beyond the arc (13-30) and 76.9 percent from the charity stripe (20-26).  St. Joseph's (L.I.) held the edge in rebounds, 48-47, as Old Westbury scored 13 second-chance points off 19 offensive boards.  Old Westbury converted 20 Golden Eagle turnovers into 26 points.  Old Westbury also held a 58-14 advantage in bench scoring.
