@OW_Panthers Softball plays two at Farmingdale State

Old Westbury returns home Monday (Apr. 13) to take on Mount Saint Mary in a Skyline Conference doubleheader

FARMINGDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury softball dropped a pair of Skyline Conference decisions, 12-6 and 7-0, Sunday afternoon on the road to the Farmingdale State Rams in Farmingdale, New York.  Old Westbury (3-17) moves to 0-6 in conference play as the Rams (12-8) advanced to 5-1.

Game One: Farmingdale State 12, Old Wesbtury 6
The Panthers used seven hits to score six runs off Farmingdale State starting right-hander Taylor Tedeschi (7-5) in the top of the second for an early 6-0 lead.  Elizabeth Redguard's RBI single broke the scoring ice to score Nicole DeCola for a 1-0 advantage.  Gabriella Valdes (2-for-4, RBI, R) followed with an RBI single and Jacqueline Perno added a run-scoring double. Two batters later, Corrine Protasiewicz stroked an RBI single, and Brittany Chernoff worked a bases loaded walk to score Perno.  Two batters later, Katie Rizzo (2-for-4, RBI, R) singled home Amanda Fucci (0-for-2, R, 2 BB) for her second hit of the inning.

Farmingdale State answered with seven runs in the home half of the second to secure the victory for Tedeschi.  Two costly Panther errors allowed Tedeschi to score the Rams' first run.  Farmingdale State collected four straight run-scoring hits, including Brittany Ciaramitaro's RBI triple to advance Marissa Monaco home for the game-winning run.

After Valdes collected a one-out single in the third, Tedeschi retired her final 14 batters faced to close out the game.

The Rams tacked on five more unearned runs in the bottom of the third off four hits and two errors to close out the scoring.

Fucci (1-10, 9 H, 12 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) was tabbed with Old Westbury's loss before DeCola tossed 3.1 innings of two-hit, shutout ball.

Game Two: Farmingdale 7, Old Westbury 0
Valdes laced a leadoff double down the left field line to register Old Westbury's lone extra-base hit of the game.  Farmingdale State starting right-hander Taylor Webb (3-2, 7 IP, 3 H, BB, 6 K) retired her next 12 batters faced before Brittany Chernoff produced a single to lead off the fifth inning.

Monaco drew a walk to lead off the Rams' second.  Old Westbury starting right-hander DeCola (2-7, 6 IP, 12 H, 7 R, BB) uncorked a wild pitch to advance Monaco to second, before a ground out moved her to third.  DeCola then allowed Monaco to score the game-winning run off another wild pitch.

Michelle Mongiell's (3-for-4, 3 RBI, R) RBI double made it a two-run game in the fifth.  The Rams scored five more runs in the sixth to close out the scoring.
