Old Westbury remains at home for Wednesday’s (Apr. 15) non-conference doubleheader versus York

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury softball team continued play in its Skyline Conference schedule Monday afternoon when they played host to the Mount Saint Mary Knights for a doubleheader from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Knights (9-7) claimed the sweep with 8-0 and 11-2 victories to improve to 5-1 in conference play while Old Westbury (3-19) moved to 0-8.  

Game One: Mount Saint Mary 8, Old Westbury 0 (6 Innings)
Old Westbury threatened early with back-to-back one-out singles by Katie Rizzo and Amanda Fucci in the first inning off Mount Saint Mary starting right-hander Colleen Dunn (4-0, 5 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 4 K).  Dunn settled down and recorded two-straight outs to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard. 

Stephanie Karcher opened the Knights' second with a single off Old Westbury starting right-hander Amanda Fucci (1-11, 7 H, 7 R, 0 ER, 2 BB).  Michelle Surdan then lined into a double play before back-to-back singles positioned runners at the corners.  Fucci would escape out the jam with a line out by Breanna DePasquale.        

Mount Saint Mary put the game away in the third inning as the Panthers committed four errors to allow seven unearned runs off four hits and two walks.

Game Two: Mount Saint Mary 11, Old Westbury 2 (6 Innings)
The Knights led off the game with three-straight singles as Danielle Soto drove in Shannon Sommer for the game's initial run.  Two batters later, Chelsea Dexter doubled home two Knights, which included scoring Karcher for the game-winning run.  Mount Saint Mary tacked on two more runs in the opening frame to hold a 5-0 lead on Old Westbury starting right-hander Nicole DeCola (2-8, 15 H, 11 ER, 4 BB, 3 K). 

Old Westbury answered in the second inning with a pair of runs to make it a 5-2 game.  With two-outs, Old Westbury stroked three-straight base hits as Elizabeth Redguard and Delana Murray each produced run-scoring singles off starting right-hander Dunn (2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER). 

Mount Saint Mary scored one in the third and five more in the sixth to complete the sweep as reliever Nicole Lomangino (1-1, 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K) earned her first win of the season.  

YORK CARDINALS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action at home Wednesday (Apr. 15) for a non-conference doubleheader versus the York Cardinals at 3 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
