Three hat-tricks pace @OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse at Ramapo

Old Westbury returns to Skyline Conference action Tuesday (Apr. 14) at St. Joseph’s (L.I.)


MAHWAH, NJ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse was unable to hold onto a late lead on the road Sunday afternoon as the Ramapo Roadrunners came away with a 16-14 win from Athletic Center Turf in Mahwah, New Jersey.  The loss moved the Panthers to 2-7 on the season while Ramapo advanced to 4-5.  

The Panthers were led offensively by Danielle Weir, Courtney Gallagher and Emily Powell, who each scored three goals, while Taylor Guarneri and Gabriella DiPeirno followed with two.  Weir set career-highs in goals and caused turnover (4) and added four ground balls and four draw controls (tied career-high).  Ashley Gugliuzzo (2-7) made a career-high 17 saves in defeat for the Panthers. 

Lindsay Hughes racked up a game-high seven goals and eight draw controls to pace Ramapo.  Alyssa Tachon contributed four goals and draw controls to the win. 

Down 13-11 with 10:05 remaining, Tachon netted back-to-back goals to spark a 5-1 run to secure Ramapo's win.  Hughes' goal at 3:43 made it a 15-13 contest for the game-winner.

Hughes broke the scoring ice 2:34 into play to break the scoring ice.  Following Beth McGraw's goal at 26:10, Taylor Guarni scored at 25:59 to spark a 5-0 Panther run to take a 5-2 lead.  Weir's goal at 23:06 extended her program-record to nine games for consecutive goal-scoring streak to start a career.  Gallagher scored her second goal of the game to the extend Old Westbury's lead to 6-4 at the 11:08 mark.  Powell added her third goal at 6:03 before Hughes' goal with four seconds remaining sent a tied 7-7 game into the half. 

DiPierno and Guarneri opened the second-half scoring before Ramapo answered with three straight goals to take a 10-9 lead.  Gallagher and Weir scored back-to-back to take back an 11-10 lead.  McGraw netted her third goal of the game to tie the game (11-11) for Ramapo.  Weir and DiPierno followed with back-to-back goals for Old Westbury's final lead (13-11).    

 
ST. JOSEPH'S (L.I.) GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to Skyline Conference action Tuesday (Apr. 14) evening on the road against the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. from SJC Outdoor Complex in Patchogue, New York.
