PURCHASE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury softball collided with the Purchase Panthers on the road Friday afternoon for a Skyline Conference "Battle of the SUNY Panthers" doubleheader in Purchase, New York. Purchase (8-12) claimed 3-1 and 8-3 victories to improve to 4-8 in conference play while sending Old Westbury (3-21) to 0-10.

Game One: Purchase 3, Old Westbury 1
Old Westbury scored its lone run in the fifth inning as Jacqueline Perno (1-for-3, R) advanced home off Gabriella Valdes' (1-for-2, RBI) sacrifice fly out to left field to make it a 3-1 game. Perno stroked a one-out single to reach base, followed by Nicole DeCola's second walk of the game. Delana Murray's (1-for-2) fielder's choice would load the bases for Valdes.

Mary Adams dropped down a sacrifice bunt to advance Samantha Alonzo (1-for-3, R) to third, and advanced home off a throwing error to break the scoring ice in the second inning. Shannon Clancy (2-for-3, HR, 2B) would then club a solo home run to double Purchase's advantage (2-0).

Nicole Fortuna led off the third with a single, and scored two batters later off Briana Leon's (1-for-2, RBI) RBI double to make it a 3-0 game.

Alonzo (5-4, 7 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 3 K) went the distance to claim her fifth win of the season for Purchase as DeCola (2-9, 6 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K) was dealt Old Westbury's tough-luck loss.

Game Two: Purchase 8, Old Westbury 3
Valdes (3-for-4, R) and Katie Rizzo (1-for-2, R) each singled to lead off the game for Old Westbury. Two batters later, Corrine Protasiewicz (2-for-4, 3 RBI) delivered a bases-clearing single with two outs to give Old Westbury a 2-0 lead.

Two costly errors combined with four hits off Old Westbury starting right-hander DeCola (2-10, 6 IP, 8 R, 5 ER, 8 H, BB, K), helped Purchase take over the lead with a six-run third inning. Amanda Green's RBI single opened the scoring books for Purchase. Three batters later, Alonzo's two-run double put Purchase in front, 3-2. Left fielder Murray's error allowed Leon (1-for-2, 2 R) and Alonzo to cross the plate before Adams totaled Purchase's sixth run off an RBI single.

Protasiewicz once again produced the big hit for the visiting Panthers, clubbing an RBI double to score Amanda Fucci to slice the deficit in half (6-3) in the fifth inning.
Purchase answered with back-to-back RBI singles in the home half of the fifth to extend the lead to five runs (8-3).

Alexandra Prescia (3-for-3, RBI, R) collected three hits to lead Purchase as Nicole Fortuna (3-8, 7 IP, 3 R, 8 H, 3 BB, 5 K) claimed the win in the circle.
