@OW_Panthers Baseball shuts down Mount Saint Mary

Old Westbury tossed two shutouts to climb the Skyline Conference standings


NEWBURGH, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury baseball completed a pair of complete game shutouts Sunday afternoon to sweep the Mount Saint Mary Knights with 5-0 and 7-0 wins in Skyline Conference road action in Newburgh, New York.  Old Westbury (17-8) advances to 8-4 in conference play while sending the Knights (11-13) to 6-6.

Game One: Old Westbury 5, Mount Saint Mary 0
Old Westbury starting left-hander Caleb Olesen (4-2) recorded his first-career shutout after tossing nine innings of four-hit ball with six strikeouts (zero walks).

Jonathan Pagan (2-for-3, R, BB, SB) and Tommy Ziegen (2-for-4, R, SB) led off the fourth with back-to-back singles before Brandon Stein's grounder scored Pagan for the game-winning run.  Joey Walsh (2-for-4, 2R, RBI, SB) and Jacob Coners each followed with RBI singles.  Nick Yip drove in Coners to cap the Panthers' four-run frame off Mount Saint Mary starting right-hander Kevin Duffy (2-1, 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, BB, 6 K). 

Steve Notaro registered Mount Saint Mary's first hit with a one-out single in the fourth inning.

Pagan singled in the fifth to collect his 100th career hit. 

Walsh's single opened the ninth and scored two batters later off Jake Schwartz's sacrifice fly to right field to close out the scoring.     

Game Two: Old Westbury 7, Mount Saint Mary 0
Panther starting right-hander Tim Ingram (5-2) fanned seven batters through five innings before serving up his lone hit of the game off Jimmy Papineau's leadoff single in the sixth.  Ingram finished off his seven inning complete game shutout with nine strikeouts (zero walks). 

Stein's (2-for-3, RBI) two-out single drove in Matthew Taurisani (2-for-4, RBI, R) in the second inning for the game-winning run off Mount Saint Mary starting right-hander Logan Kurtz (0-3, 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, BB). 

Dean Sheridan (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 SB) led off the fourth with a single, stole second, and scored two batters later off Ziegen's sacrifice fly out to left field to double Old Westbury's advantage. 

Old Westbury scored three in the fifth off consecutive hits by Yip (RBI double), Sheridan (RBI single) and Taurisani (RBI single). 

Yip's (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R) RBI triple scored the Panthers' sixth run and Sheridan followed with an RBI single to plate home Robinson Hernandez to close out the scoring in the seventh.  

SENIOR NIGHT VERSUS CCNY BEAVERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home for Senior Night on Tuesday (Apr. 21) against the CCNY Beavers at 6 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Prior to first pitch, seniors Jacob Coners (2012-15), Christian Faust (2014-15), Tim Ingram (2014-15), Caleb Olesen (2014-15), Jonathan Pagan (2013-15), Brandon Stein (2012-15), Christopher Vitale (2012-15) and Nick Yip (2014-15) will be honored for their years of dedication to Old Westbury Athletics with the annual Senior Night Ceremony.
