@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse scores single-game record 22 goals in win at Maritime

Courtney Gallagher led the charge with four goals and three assists

THROGGS NECK, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse broke a single-game program record with 22 goals in Sunday's promising 22-7 Skyline Conference road win against the Maritime Privateers from Reinhart Field.  The win improves Old Westbury (3-9) to 2-4 in conference play while sending the Privateers (2-9) to 0-6.

Courtney Gallagher was one of four Panthers to net four-goal performances on the day as Old Westbury also set a single-game program record for total points (30), assists (8) and draw controls (18).  Gallagher racked up three assists in addition to four ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers.  Emily Powell, Gabriella DiPierno and Taylor Guarneri contributed four goals while Sara Bey and Shijuan Williams added two.  Danielle Weir also chipped in with one goal and career-highs of eight ground balls and six draw controls.  Powell followed with four draw controls and Bey scooped up a career-high seven ground balls.

DiPierno broke the scoring ice 1:52 into play off a feed from Halle Johnson (one goal, two assists) for an early 1-0 Panther advantage.  Bey then doubled Old Westbury's advantage with an unassisted goal at 26:45.  Leanne Lavelle put Maritime on the board at 26:33, and Hannah Mutum tied the game 20 seconds later for the Privateers.  Gallagher found Johnson at 25:35 to spark a 7-0 run as Weir scored her second-career game winner at 21:44 to put the Panthers up 8-2.  Shannon Brady scored back-to-back goals to slice Maritime's deficit to 9-4 with 13:12 remaining.  Bey and Gallagher upped the Panthers' lead to seven with back-to-back goals before Mutum's second goal of the game cut the lead back down to 11-5.   DiPierno sparked and capped Old Westbury's 3-0 run with a pair of goals for a 14-5 lead with 3:24 remaining.  Brady scored with 2:23 left to close out the first-half scoring as the Panthers took a 14-6 advantage at the break.

Powell scored her fourth goal of the game 1:16 into second-half play to open the second-half scoring books as the Panthers outscored Maritime 8-1 over the final 30 minutes.

Ashley Gugliuzzo (3-9) made nine saves to earn Old Westbury's win while Christina Finnen (2-9) stopped seven shots in defeat for the Privateers.
In the end, Old Westbury held the advantage in shots (35-20), shots on goal (29-16), ground balls (32-25) and draw controls (18-13).
