OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -SUNY Old Westbury softball opened its Skyline Conference schedule Thursday afternoon with a home-opening doubleheader against the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Dolphins (5-9) claimed 2-1 and 7-0 victories to advance to 4-0 in conference play while sending Old Westbury (1-9) off to an 0-2 start.

Game One: Mount Saint Vincent 2, Old Westbury 1
Mount Saint Vincent starting right-hander Kathleen Davis (1-2, 6.1 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 K) allowed just three singles to keep Old Westbury off the board through six innings.  Meanwhile, the Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in the fourth off Casey Cuccio's RBI single which scored Rachel Heizer (2-for-3, RBI, R) for the game's initial run.

Mount Saint Vincent's Kathleen Davis (2-for-4, R) scored the game-winning run off Heizer's two-out RBI double in the fifth inning for a 2-0 lead.

Nicole DeCola delivered a pinch-hit single to start a one-out rally in the seventh.  Gabriella Valdes followed with a single to advance pinch runner Delana Murray to second.  Amanda Fucci then stepped to the plate to produce an RBI single which scored Murray for Old Westbury's lone run.  With runners on second and third, Rachel Heizer (0.2 IP, K) was called on to retire Corrine Protasiewicz and Alexis Ferrero to earn her first save of the season.

Fucci (0-6, 7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K) was dealt Old Wesbury's loss, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three.

Game Two: Mount Saint Vincent 7, Old Westbury 0
Valdes' 2-for-4 game at the plate paced the Panthers offense in game two.  Jacqueline Perno (1-for-2, BB) added a double to register Old Westbury's lone extra-base hit of the day.

DeCola allowed back-to-back singles in the first inning before Rachel Heizer (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) doubled home Davis (3-for-4, 3 R) for the game-winning run.  Mount Saint Vincent took a 3-0 lead in the third off RBI singles by Mackenzie Heizer's (2-for-4, 3 RBI, R) and Rianna Laughridge.  The Dolphins erupted in the seventh inning with four runs on five hits to put the game out of reach.

DeCola (1-3. 6 IP, 6 R, 4 ER) took Old Westbury's loss while Kathryn Dalton (1-1, 4 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K) claimed the Dolphins' win as Rachel Hiezer (3 IP, 2 H, 4 K) claimed her second save of the day.
