Old Westbury registers four players with multi-hit games

OLD WESTBURY, NYĀ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -Ā SUNY Old Westbury baseball pounded out 13 hits en route to a 10-5 home win against the Baruch Bearcats Monday afternoon from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.Ā  Old Westbury advances to 11-5 on the season while sending Baruch's record to 8-13.

Eddie Hernandez (2-for-4, 2 RBI, SB) delivered a two-run single to score Joey Walsh and Brandon Stein for a 7-5 Panther lead in the sixth inning.Ā  Jacob Coners added a two-run single in the seventh before Joey Walsh (3-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 R) was hit by the pitch to score Nick Yip from third, making it a 10-5 game.

Old Westbury piled on the runs after Baruch posted five scores in the sixth to tie the game.Ā  Nicholas LaForgia singled home two and Zacharay Uher clubbed a three-run home run to make it a 5-5 game. Ā Ā Ā Ā 

Dean Sheridan reached base on a fielding error by shortstop Jesus Ozuna Perez, which knocked in Michael Cardino (2-for-4, 2 R) in the second to open the scoring for the Panthers.Ā  Coners' infield grounder scored Tommy Ziegen (3-for-5, 3 R, SB) for a 2-0 lead in the second inning.Ā  Jonathan Pagan's sacrifice fly scored Walsh to make it a 3-0 game in the third.Ā  Walsh followed in the fourth with a two-run single to score Sheridan and Ziegen for a 5-0 lead.Ā  Ā Ā 

Panther starting right-hander Nick Dorcean (4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) did not factor into the decision as reliever Vinny Bieniek (1-0, 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 BB) recorded two outs to notch his first-career win.Ā  Justin Mize (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K), Caleb Olesen (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) and Tim Ingram (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Matthew Fazio (2-3, 3.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 4 K) worked 3.1 innings in relief of Ryan Smith (3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 K) for Baruch's loss.
