Old Westbury pitching extends walk-less streak to 20.2 innings

Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury softball lost a pair of Skyline Conference games, 10-0 and 8-0, Monday afternoon at home to the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles.  With the losses, Old Westbury (3-13) now moves to 0-4 in conference play while the Golden Eagles (11-8) advanced to 5-0.

Game One: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 10, Old Westbury 0
St. Joseph's (L.I.) starting right-hander Mallory McClafferty (7 IP, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K) yielded just two hits to the Panthers in the opener to improve to 5-2 on the season.  Elizabeth Redguard stroked a one-out single to right center and advanced to second on an error by right fielder Tara Bernocco for Old Westbury's first hit.  Nicole DeCola singled to lead off the home half of the seventh with the Panthers' other hit.

The Golden Eagles broke the scoring ice in the second inning with a solo run as Gabrielle Cinquemani scored from third off a throwing error by Brittany Chernoff

Amanda Fucci (1-8, 6 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 3 K) extended her walk-less streak to 16.2 innings in defeat for the Panthers.

St. Joseph's (L.I.) used a four-run inning in the third to take 5-0 lead.  A costly two-run throwing error by Chernoff initiated scoring in the third frame.  The Golden Eagles scored twice in the fifth and two more runs in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Game Two: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 8, Old Westbury 0 (6 Inn.)
The Golden Eagles broke the scoring ice in the third inning when Bernocco singled home Cinquemani off Panther starting right-hander DeCola (2-5, 6.0 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K) for the game-winning run.  St. Joseph's (L.I.) scored three more runs in the frame to take a 4-0 advantage.  Lindsey Corriss stretch a single into a score after advancing three bases off center fielder Gabriella Valdes' fielding error, which also scored Cheyenne Raimondi and Bernocco.

Lauren Buturla (6.0 UP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K) received plenty of run support to toss the Golden Eagles' second-straight two-hit shutout.

Katie Rizzo led off the bottom of the third with a single and DeCola added a single in the fourth.

NYU VIOLETS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action Tuesady (Apr. 7) when they host the NYU Violets at 3 p.m. for a non-conference doubleheader from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
