@OW_Panthers Softball tussles with NYU at home

Old Westbury returns to Skyline Conference play at home Saturday versus Mount Saint Mary

Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - SUNY Old Westbury softball and the NYU Violets met for the first time in program history Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Violets claimed 10-2 and 10-0 (5 Inn.) victories to improve to 4-16 on the season, while the Panthers move to 3-15.

Game One: NYU 10, Old Westbury 2
Kahala Bonsignore (3-for-5, RBI, 2 R) stroked an infield groundout to first to push across Colby Tarsitano (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R) for an early NYU lead in the first inning off Panther right-handed starter Amanda Fucci (1-9, 17 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 2 BB, 2 K).  Molly Webber then doubled the Violets' advantage with a run-scoring double to make it a 2-0 game.  Old Westbury answered in the first with Jacqueline Perno's run-scoring double that advanced Gabriella Valdes (3-for-4, 3 R) across home plate to slice the deficit in half.  Valdes initially led off the inning with a single to set the plate for Perno.

NYU used a two-out triple by Webber to drive in Bonsignore for the Violets' third run in the top of the third.  Valdes led off the home half of the third with her first-career triple.  Two batters later, Fucci's (3-for-4, 2B) RBI single scored Valdes to make it a 3-2 game.

Tarsitano scored Samantha Block (3-for-4, R) off a two-out single in the fourth inning to double NYU's advantage to 4-2.

Lauren Parnaby's two-run double in the fifth sparked a four-run inning for an 8-2 NYU lead.

Game Two: NYU 10, Old Westbury 0 (5 Inn.)
Panther right-handed starter Nicole DeCola (2-6, 4.1 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) allowed a first inning run-scoring single to Sage Scheiwiller (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) to score Tarsitano for the game's initial run.
Scheiwiller reached base on a fielding error by third baseman Fucci to lead off the fourth.  Four batters later, Scheiwiller crossed the plate on a fielder's choice to make it a 2-0 game.  Three batters later, Natalie Evans advanced to third on a fielder's choice and then scored off catcher Corrine Protasiewicz's throwing error.  Marisa Bella followed with a run-scoring single and Val Schwein advanced home on a dropped ball by shortstop Perno to give NYU a 5-0 lead.

NYU tacked on five more runs in the fifth inning to draw the 10-0 final.

Protasiewicz's first inning double was Old Westbury's lone hit off Tremblay (3-4, 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K).

NYU VIOLETS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action Tuesady (Apr. 7) when they host the NYU Violets at 3 p.m. for a non-conference doubleheader from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
