@OW_Panthers Baseball moves past Farmingdale State in Skyline Conference Tournament, 2-1

Old Westbury is one win away from its sixth-straight Skyline Conference final

PATCHOGUE, NY - (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - No. 2 SUNY Old Westbury (23-8) earned a convincing 2-1 win Friday afternoon over the No.3 Farmingdale State Rams (16-16) in the opening round of the Skyline Conference Baseball Championship Tournament from Gregg Alfano Field in Patchogue, New York.

The Panthers return to Gregg Alfano Field Saturday morning to take on the top-seeded St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles (20-15) in the semifinal round at 10 a.m.  Farmingdale State will now face the fourth-seeded Maritime Privateers (12-17) in the elimination game at 1 p.m.

Old Westbury starting right-hander Tim Ingram (7-2, 7 H, R, BB, 8 K, third-straight complete game) retired his first five batters faced until surrendering just his fourth extra-base hit of the season when Domenic Palumbo stroked a two-out double.  The Rams appeared ready to break through off Nick Osburn's (2-for-3) single, but center fielder Jonathan Pagan had another idea when he threw out Palumbo at home to end the threat.

Michael Cardino (1-for-3, R) slapped a leadoff triple to right center to get things going in the Panthers' third.  Two batters later, Dean Sheridan (0-for-3, R, BB) worked a two-out walk before Jonathan Pagan (1-for-3, 2 RBI) clubbed a bases clearing double to break the scoring ice off Rams' starting left-hander Kevin Cashman (2-3, 3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 BB, K).  Sheridan was unable to extend his 12-game hitting streak, but was credited with scoring the game-winning run.

Thomas Rydzewski and Anthony Alvino (2-for-4) each ripped one-out singles in the sixth.  Rydzewski advanced to third off Ingram's wild pitch before scoring off Michael Marino's RBI single to slice the deficit in half (2-1).
