@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer battles FDU-Florham in season opener

Old Westbury returns to the field September 5 versus CCNY at the CSI Fall Classic

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-0 setback at home to the FDU-Florham Devils Tuesday afternoon from Panther Park.

Mayra Bonilla led the Panthers with two of the team's six shots on the day.  Melissa Muller stopped a career-best eight saves in net for Old Westbury (0-1-0). 

FDU-Florham (1-0-0) outshot Old Westbury 25-6.  Both team ended the day with three corner kicks. 

The Devils attacked quick and early, scoring their first two goals in the first 10 minutes only two minutes apart.  Justine Fernandez netted the first goal at the 7:33 mark with Carly Bresney on the assist.  Fernandez then doubled the Devils' advantage off a feed from Kristina Ragolia at 9:33 for a 2-0 lead. 

FDU-Florham put another shot into the net at 80:55 off the foot of Danielle Matos.  Gabby Diaco closed out the scoring at 88:15 by finishing Ashley Granato's pass.  

CCNY BEAVERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to the CSI Fall Classic to take on the CCNY Beavers in the opener on Saturday (Sept. 5) at  2 p.m. from the CSI Soccer Complex in Staten Island.
