@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball closes out home stand with Centenary

Old Westbury opens road play Saturday (Sept. 19) at Staten Island

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball dropped a three-set, non-conference affair to the visiting Centenary Cyclones, 25-13, 25-15, 25-11, Thursday evening from Clark Athletic Center. 

Centenary (1-7) led throughout the opening two sets before Chelsey Hoffman racked up a solo block to open the third-set scoring for the Panthers.  Both teams combined to record five lead changes during the third set. 

Hoffman paced the Panthers (1-2) with a career-best 10 digs to go along with six assists, five kills and 1.5 blocks.  Sofia Goris and Olivia O'Keefe each chipped in with career-highs of nine digs.  Rayn Brown added five digs, four kills and two aces.

Centenary's Vanessa McKellar nailed down a match-high 15 kills while Ashley Bierbaum and Zoey Woody captained the offense with 13 assists apiece.  Woody also served up a game-high six aces and Na'imah Spells scoped up 25 digs.

Old Westbury totaled 15 kills on 83 attempts to hit -.024 for the match, compared to Centenary's .228 (33 kills, 92 attempts).  Centenary also held the advantage in assists (31-13), digs (50-45), aces (13) and blocks (3-2).  

STATEN ISLAND DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens road play Saturday (Sept. 19) with the Staten Island Dolphins at 12 p.m. from Sports & Recreation Center in Staten Island, New York.
