@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball collides with Staten Island in road opener

Old Westbury remains on the road for Tuesday’s (Sept. 22) non-conference matchup at Medgar Evers

STATEN ISLAND, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball opened road play Saturday afternoon and were overpowered by the Staten Island Dolphins, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-17), in non-conference action from CSI Sports & Recreation Center in Staten Island.  

Old Westbury (1-3) held early leads in each of the three sets, but were unable to recover from Staten Island's (4-4) key runs throughout the match.  The Panthers 
hit just -.020 for the match and totaled 11 kills, while Staten Island had 36 kills as a team and hit .174 in the win.  Old Westbury totaled three blocks in the match while holding Staten Island to one as a team. 

Shanayia Lloyd recorded a career-high 10 digs and three kills on eight swings to hit .250 to lead the Panthers in the match.  Sofia Goris scooped up eight digs and served up one ace while Rayn Brown followed with five digs, two kills and one block.  Chelsey Hoffman captained the offense with five assists and contributed four digs, two kills and one block.  Brittany Buchanan chipped in with a career-high two blocks.    

Staten Island's Siobhan Granich nailed down a match-high 10 kills while Selma Kolenovic went for nine and a .500 attacking percentage.  Brittany Minondo's 25 assists moved the Dolphins on offense as Victoria Wong recorded nine digs and eight aces to help clinch the victory.  


MEDGAR EVERS COUGARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues road play Tuesday (Sept. 22) when they travel for a non-conference showdown with the Medgar Evers Cougars at 7 p.m. from Cougars Cave in Brooklyn.
