@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse volunteers at Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes

Old Westbury’s women’s lacrosse team participated in the American Diabetes Association walk at Jones Beach State Park on September 27

WANTAGH, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) The SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team continued with its strong tradition of community service on September 27, when the team volunteered at the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes event that took place at Jones Beach State Park.

"We are so grateful to the organizers of Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes for allowing us to be a part of their special day," SUNY Old Westbury head women's lacrosse coach Lauren Schneider said after the event. "It was great to help the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Not only did we volunteer for a great cause, but we got a great bonding experience out of it," added Schneider.

The Panther coaching staff and student-athletes helped the event organizers greet participants arriving at the walk. The team also prepared breakfast foods, and then completed the 5k course with the 700-plus participants that came together to fight diabetes to raise over $90,000 for the ADA.

Schneider, along with Old Westbury women's lacrosse student-athletes LaChaye Allen, Sara Bey, Imani Blake, Gabriella DiPierno, Christine Fernandez, Courtney Gallagher, Taylor Guarneri, Ashley Gugliuzzo, Halle Johnson, Emily Powell and Natasha Treuman participated in the event.
