@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer collides with Staten Island at CSI Fall Classic

Old Westbury returns home September 12 for a non-conference showdown versus Lehman

STATEN ISLAND, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) In a battle of the Skyline Conference and CUNYAC, the Staten Island Dolphins got the better of the SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team as the hosts secured a 1-0 win over the visiting Panthers in non-conference action Sunday at the CSI Fall Classic.  Old Westbury dipped to 1-2-0 through three matches on the year, while Staten Island improved to 3-0-0.

The two sides battled in scoreless first half, as Staten Island fired away six shots, compared to Old Westbury's five.

Following Panther shot attempts by Lucia Mejia and Michelle Ventimiglia early in the second half, Staten Island began to dictate the action, compiling an 8-3 advantage in shots during the opening 32-plus minutes of the final stanza.  The lone goal came in the 78th minute, when Danielle Alexandrini's marker propelled Staten Island to a 1-0 win.  Samantha Wysokowski claimed the assist off her feed into the box that set up Alexandrini for the score.

Kristy Colangelo (3-0-0) earned a clean sheet with eight saves for Staten Island, while Melissa Muller (0-2-0) totaled nine stops in defeat.

Mejia and Ventimiglia each put up three shots the lead the Panther offense, while Ventimiglia and Mayra Bonilla landed two on target.

Overall, Staten Island held the advantage in shots (17-12), shots on goal (11-8) and corner kicks (9-6).
