Second-half surge drives @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball to 72-55 win at Purchase

Jamail Stanley erupted for 27 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in Saturday’s Skyline Conference road win

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball outscored the Purchase Panthers by 18 points during the second half to capture Saturday's 72-55 Skyline Conference road win inside Purchase College Gymnasium.  With the win, Old Westbury (9-6) climbs to 8-2 in conference play while sending Purchase (8-8) to 6-5.

Purchase controlled the opening 20 minutes of play to bring a 26-25 lead into intermission.  Never trailing throughout the first half, Purchase maxed out its lead at eight points (26-18) off a pair of Max Pierce free throws with 2:01 remaining.  Kaleem Edwards' three-point play sparked Old Westbury's 7-0 run to close out the final 1:46. 

Jamail Stanley's three pointer with 17:40 remaining put Old Westbury up for good with its first lead of the game (30-28).  Stephon Odle dropped in a layup with 13:32 left to cap Old Westbury's 15-4 run to make it a 10-point contest (40-30).  Taylor Foster's free throws sliced Purchase's deficit to eight points (40-32) before Odle's triple gave Old Westbury a double-digit lead for the final 11:30.  Lylle Ryals would later land a three pointer to give Old Westbury a game-high 19 point cushion (56-37) with 8:07 showing on the second-half clock. 

Stanley scored 16 of his game-high 27 points (7-of-15 FG, 12-of-15 FT) in the second half as Old Westbury held a 47-29 scoring advantage during that stretch.  He finished with a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals to record his fifth double-double of the season.  Ryals followed with 13 points (2-of-3 3FG) while Odle registered 10 points, five rebounds and two steals.  Edwards chipped in with nine rebounds. 

Foster paced Purchase with 21 points while Nicholas Jackson added 10 points.  Joel Neri swatted a game-high four blocks and Michael Soffer nabbed three steals (game-high) off the bench. 

In the end, Old Westbury shot 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the field, 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from three-point range and 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Purchase connected on 28.1 percent (18-of-64) from the floor, 20 percent (5-of-25) from beyond the arc and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 52-38, scoring 18 second-chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury also held the advantage in steals (7-5), points in the paint (26-10) and points off turnovers (8-6).

    
MARITIME PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury returns to action Wednesday (Jan. 20) evening with a Skyline Conference matchup against the Maritime Privateers at 7 p.m. from Riesenberg Gymnasium in Throggs Neck, New York.  Old Westbury will look to complete the series sweep of the Privateers after claiming a 74-53 victory (Box Score) at home on December 5.
