@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball storms past Keystone to extend win streak

A strong shooting performance helped Old Westbury to an 89-46 victory in Sunday's non-conference road win

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball put forth a strong shooting display in the first half to build a 25-point halftime lead in an eventual 89-46 non-conference road victory to open the 2016 calendar year Sunday afternoon against the Keystone Giants (4-6).  The Panthers improved to 9-2 on the season and won their seventh game in a row to tie their longest win streak since January 2013

Old Westbury opened the game with a 6-0 run as Raven Pentz broke the scoring ice four seconds into play.  Maddy Moro cut the Giants' deficit to four points (10-6) before Olivia Ilardi's jumper sparked a 19-3 Panther run to close out the final 5:52 of the first quarter. 

The Panthers would outscore Keystone 16-11 in the second quarter to take a commanding 45-20 lead into intermission. 

Old Westbury maintained a 20-point advantage for the final 30:44 of play as Alexis Lopez's free throw with nine seconds left extended the lead to a game-high 43 points.
 
Crystal Barnes maximized her 18 minutes of court time to record her 16th career double-double in leading the Panthers to victory.  She finished with 21 points (9-of-16 FG), 12 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.  Monique Joseph scored a career-high 14 points (5-of-9 FG) to go with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Nikki Alexander contributed 10 points (4-of-6 FG) and 11 rebounds off the bench for her fourth career double-double.  Ilardi registered 10 points (5-of-9 FG) and two steals while Bridgid McNeill added two blocks.  Pentz and Tori Bellings each chipped in with five assists.

Destinee Hall led Keystone with 17 points and Moro added 10.   

Old Westbury connected on 47.3 percent (35-of-74) from the field and landed 70.8 percent from the free-throw line (17-of-24) despite struggling with the long range shot (16.7 percent, 2-of-12).  The Giants shot 21.5 percent (14-of-65) from the floor, 11.1 percent (2-of-18) from behind the arc and 64 percent (16-of-25) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury finished with a +22 rebounding margin (61-39), scoring 24 second-chance points off 19 offensive boards.  Old Westbury also held the advantage in assists (18-7), steals (10-7), blocks (7-4), points in the paint (56-12) and points off turnovers (30-13).


SAGE GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to Skyline Conference play on the road Thursday (Jan. 7) at 6 p.m. against the Sage Gators from Kahl Gymnasium.
