Stanley nets 23 in @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball action at Sage

Jamail Stanley led Old Westbury in scoring for the fifth time this season

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball snapped a four-game Skyline Conference win streak Thursday evening as the Sage Gators claimed a 74-59 victory inside Kahl Gymnasium.  The setback moves Old Westbury (6-6) to 5-2 in conference play while the Gators (9-4) remain in first place with a 7-1 league record.   

Jamail Stanley broke the scoring ice 1:51 into play with a layup to give the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.  Moments later, Stanley landed a three pointer for Old Westbury's largest lead of the game (13-10) with 14:07 remaining in the half.  From there, Andre Robinson's three pointer sparked Sage's 18-5 run from 13:48 to 5:42 to make it a 28-18 game.  Sage held a 36-25 lead at intermission.

Sage pushed its lead to 15 points (40-25) in the opening 1:46 before Old Westbury answered with a 9-0 run from 17:41 to 14:31 to make it a six-point game (42-36).  Sage would outscore the Panthers 19-11 over the final 7:20 to coast to the 15-point win. 

Stanley led the way for the Panthers with 23 points (7-of-13 FG, 8-of-10 FT), six rebounds and five steals.  P.J. Page followed with 10 points and two steals while Luckens Victor ripped down a game-high 10 rebounds.  Preston Powell sparked the Panthers with career highs of nine points (2-of-2 3FG) and three steals off the bench. 

Robinson and Rob Mills each netted 18 points to pace the Gators to victory.  Jorrdan McCray added 13 points and Travis Gill dished out a game-high five assists.

Old Westbury shot 30.5 percent (18-of-59) from the field while connecting on 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from three-point territory and 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Sage hit on 44 percent (22-of-50) from the floor, 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from beyond the arc and 66.7 percent (21-of-31) from the charity stripe.  Sage won the boards battle, 39-38, while Old Westbury scored nine second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury also held the advantage in steals (15-11), points in the paint (26-22) and fast-break points (12-2).  Sage converted 17 Panther turnovers into 16 points.  


MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Jan. 9) for a Skyline Conference showdown with the Mount Saint Mary Knights at 12 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers claimed victory over the Knights on December 8 with a 69-52 final (Box Score) in Newburgh, New York.
