Stanley’s big game helps @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball to win over Mount Saint Mary

Jamail Stanley had a monster game – career-high 30 points – to help lead Old Westbury to a 79-62 Skyline Conference win over visiting Mount Saint Mary on Saturday

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball captured a 79-62 Skyline Conference wire-to-wire victory over the visiting Mount Saint Mary Knights on Saturday afternoon inside Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (7-6) improved to 6-2 in conference play while sending the Knights (5-8) to 3-6. 

Jamail Stanley broke the scoring ice with a layup to spark a 14-1 Panther run over the opening 5:38 of play.  Mount Saint Mary used a 7-0 run to make it a 19-13 game before Stanley scored four-straight points as part of an 8-0 spurt to go up by 14 points with 57 seconds left.  Old Westbury maintained the 14-point lead to take a 31-17 advantage into intermission.

P.J. Page drilled a three pointer to cap a 7-2 run to give Old Westbury a 38-19 lead with 18:07 remaining in the second half.  Old Westbury's lead was maxed out at 19 points on six separate occasions throughout the second stanza.  Mount Saint Mary would close the gap to 12 points in the final two minutes of play, but were unable to overcome the deficit.

Stanley registered his fourth double-double of the season to finish with a career-high 30 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the field and 10 rebounds.  His statline also included four assists, four steals and one block.  Page followed with 17 points (7-of-12 FG), six rebounds, five assists (career high), two steals and one block.  Luckens Victor combined 14 points (4-of-5 FG) and 10 rebounds to record his third career double-double. 

Connor Nicholson and T.J. Patsalos each netted 13 points to pace the Knights.  Gerard Nocera added 11 points and Tyler McDine went for 10. 

In the end, Old Westbury shot a season-high 55.4 percent (31-of-56) from the field, and connected on 60 percent (15-of-25) from the free-throw line and 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from three-point territory.  By comparison, Mount Saint Mary landed 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor, 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury finished with a +23 rebounding margin (47-24), scoring 10 second-chance points off 14 offensive boards.  The Panthers dished out a season-best 21 assists and scored 20 points off 17 Knight turnovers.  Old Westbury also outscored the Knights 52-20 in the paint.  


ST. JOSEPH'S (BROOKLYN) BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home for Tuesday's (Jan. 12) Skyline Conference showdown with the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears at 7 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Bears claimed an 81-63 victory (Box Score) over the Panthers in the December 2 meeting in Brooklyn.
