Old Westbury registers three double-digit scorers to improve to 5-1 in Skyline Conference play with Saturday’s home win

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball outscored the visiting Mount Saint Mary Knights in each of the opening three quarters to earn Saturday's 69-47 Skyline Conference win inside Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (10-3) improves to 5-1 in conference play while sending the Knights (5-8) to 3-3. 

Both teams combined for five lead changes in an intensely played first quarter.  Old Westbury twice led by as many as four points in the opening stanza as Crystal Barnes' layup with 26 remaining gave the Panthers a 14-13 advantage heading into the second period.

Alexis Lopez's three pointer 30 seconds into second-quarter play gave the Panthers the lead for good.  Raven Pentz connected from three-point land with 4:58 remaining to spark a 14-2 run to send the Panthers into the half with a 33-19 lead. 

Old Westbury used a 16-3 run during the third quarter to take a 52-26 lead with 1:42 remaining.

Pentz's layup with 8:40 showing on the fourth-quarter clock stretched the lead to a game-high 27 points (60-33).  Mount Saint Mary would pull within 18 points before the Panthers scored six of the game's final nine points to secure the 22-point win.

Jasmine Robinson poured in a game-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor to go with three steals and one block in leading the Panthers to victory.  Crystal Barnes followed with 12 points, three steals and two blocks while Pentz registered 11 points and six assists (zero turnovers). 

Jessica Rini paced the Knights with 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. 

Old Westbury finished the game shooting 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the field, 25 percent (3-of-12) from three-point territory and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, the Knights connected on 25 percent (16-of-64) from the floor, 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from beyond the arc and 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from the charity stripe.  Both teams grabbed 46 rebounds, and Old Westbury scored 12 second-chance points off 12 offensive boards.  The Panthers converted 15 Knight turnovers into 18 points. Old Westbury also held the advantage in steals (9-4), blocks (8-4), points in the paint (40-22), fast-break points (20-6) and bench points (25-18).   


ST. JOSEPH'S (BROOKLYN) BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home for Tuesday's (Jan. 12) Skyline Conference matchup with the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears at 5 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers will look to complete the season sweep after claiming victory over the Bears on December 2 with a 86-68 final (Box Score) in Brooklyn.
