@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball returns to Skyline Conference play with Saturday’s road tri-match

Old Westbury closes out its home schedule with a Dig Pink Senior Day on Sunday (Oct. 23) against Farmingdale State and St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

ALBANY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball traveled to The Sage Colleges Saturday afternoon for a Skyline Conference tri-match against the host Gators and Mount Saint Mary College Knights in Albany, New York.  Old Westbury (3-17, 1-5 Skyline) lost in three sets to Mount Saint Mary (25-15, 25-14, 25-8) and Sage (25-3, 25-11, 25-13) inside Kahl Gymnasium. 

In the opener against Mount Saint Mary, Marie McKenzie led Old Westbury with two solo blocks and two kills.  Sofia Goris moved the offense with five assists while serving two of the team's four aces.  Amanda Neenan and Shanayia Lloyd each served on ace.  Nikia Gardon scooped a team-best nine digs while Neenan followed with seven. 

Ally Klesin totaled a match-high 10 kills on 19 swings as Kim Gries dished out 21 assist to pace the Knights to victory.  Emily Mazzurco served four of Mount Saint Mary's 13 aces.

Against Sage, Goris nailed down three kills to go along with two assists and two digs.  McKenzie added two aces, one block assist and four digs while Gardon added four digs, two kills and two assists.  Olivia O'Keefe chipped in with one block assist. 

Michayla Berard registered 14 kills on 22 swings as Rachel Liebig's 23 assists directed Sage's offense.  Sara Campolieta served eight aces, while Allison Bardwell and Liebig followed with five and four, respectively.

DIG PINK SENIOR DAY VERSUS THE FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS AND ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE (L.I.) GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:  Old Westbury closes out its home schedule on Sunday (Oct. 23) against the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles and Farmingdale State College Rams on Dig Pink Senior Day inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers open at 11 a.m. with St. Joseph's (L.I.) followed by Farmingdale State at 1 p.m.  Prior to first serve against Farmingdale State, Old Westbury will honor its lone senior, Alicia Gewirtz, with the annual Senior Day Ceremony. 

Old Westbury will join forces with The Side-Out Foundation as part of its Breast Cancer Awareness Day.  Old Westbury invites fans to wear pink to the matches to help support the cause.  The Panthers will be selling special edition breast cancer awareness t-shirts for $10 that will directly benefit The Side-Out Foundation to inspire science and hope in the match against breast cancer. 
 
The Side-Out Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches and to have them work toward the common goal of making a significant and identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families. The organization's goal is to advance clinical trials, increase compassionate support services and educate communities. Side-Out supports teams nationwide in their volleyball tournaments, clinics and other fundraising efforts. The foundation offers practical support for fundraising in addition to educational material for participants in order to help them become effective advocates for breast cancer. It contributes the funds to organizations that serve breast cancer patients, whether it be in the form of research, medical services or compassionate support.
