BROOKLYN --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball pulled out a 75-73 non-conference victory Saturday evening over the Manhattanville College Valiants (2-2) at the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament hosted by Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. With the win, Old Westbury (2-0) advances to Sunday's (Nov. 27) championship game versus the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels (1-0) at 3 p.m. inside Cougars Cave.

Jasmine Robinson put Old Westbury on the board with a three-pointer 1:04 in to spark a 10-2 run. Manhattanville responded with a Joiada Darnell layup to ignite a 6-0 spurt to pull within two points (10-8) with 5:53 left in the first. Entering the second stanza with an 18-15 advantage, Tori Bellings' triple pushed the Panthers' lead back up to six before Monique Joseph dropped in a layup to extend the lead to a game-high eight points (25-17) with 7:55 showing on the second-quarter clock. The Panthers held a 36-32 lead at the break.

Brittany Deieso stuck a jumper at 8:32 to cap a 7-0 run to give Manhattanville a 39-38 lead. Tyra Bellings tied the game at 43 with a three that kick-started a 10-0 Panther run from 6:29 to 4:01 in the third period. Ivy Coles made a trio of free-throws as part of a 5-0 Valliant run to make it a 50-48 game with 3:41 remaining in the third. Kayleah McGuire sank a pair of free-throws with 6:39 to give Manhattanville a 62-61 lead before Charlotte Renker laid-in two points to put Old Westbury ahead for good 23 seconds later. With the game tied at 73 with 17 seconds remaining, Robinson fed Ruth Vargas in the paint for the game-winning layup. Manhattanville would misfire from deep and in the box in the closing seconds for the Panthers to hold on for the 75-73 final.

Renker led all scorers with a career-high 17 points (6-of-8 FG) in addition to pulling down nine rebounds. Tori Bellings followed with a personal-best 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field to go with five rebounds. Vargas grabbed 12 rebounds (six offensive) and poured in 11 points to record her third-career double-double. She also added four steals and two blocks in 34 minutes of action. Robinson finished with nine points, seven assists and three steals.

Ivy Coles totaled 16 points and five steals to lead Manhattanville while Nancy Caballero chipped in with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Deieso followed with 13 points.

In the end, Old Westbury shot 39.4 percent (28-of-71) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from three-point range and 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from the free-throw line. By comparison, Manhattanville shot 33.3 percent (23-of-69) from the floor, 12.5 percent (1-of-8) from beyond the arc and 72.2 percent (26-of-36) at the stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 52-48, and scored 20 second-chance points off 22 offensive rebounds. Both teams nabbed 13 steals while the Panthers converted 24 Manhattanville turnovers into 26 points.
