@OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball battles Albertus Magnus in non-conference showdown

Old Westbury scores four Panthers in double-digits Tuesday on the road

NEW HAVEN, CT --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball were outscored by 12 points in the second half en route to Tuesday's 83-71 non-conference setback on the road to the Albertus Magnus College Falcons (2-1) in New Haven, Connecticut. 

Trailing 6-2 early on, Old Westbury (0-4) used an 8-0 run from 17:20 to 14:38 capped by Terrin Roland's 3-pointer to grab its first lead (8-6) of the game.  Lylle Ryals later connected on back-to-back triples during a 54-second span to extend Old Westbury's largest lead of the game to nine (30-21) with 5:42 remaining.  Following a layup by Preston Powell that pushed Old Westbury's lead back up to nine (32-23) with 4:20 left, Albertus Magnus closed out the final 3:40 with an 11-2 run to send a 34-34 game into the break.

Devin Coleman landed a 3-pointer nine seconds into second-half play to give the Falcons the lead for good.  Albertus Magnus went up 45-36 as Coleman scored nine of the Falcons' 11 points to open the stanza.  Stanley Baker converted a 3-point play with 12:31 left to bring the Panthers within four (51-47) before the Falcons put the game away with a 24-12 run from 12:21 to 2:58 to extend the lead to a game-high 16 points (75-59).

Baker and Kris Mondesir both scored 13 points to pace Old Westbury. Mondesir nabbed three steals while Ryals added two in addition to scoring 11 points.  Brandon Thomson contributed 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point territory as Roland went for nine rebounds, eight assists and one steal.  Powell chipped in with nine points.

Coleman poured in 29 points (6-of-11 3FG) to lead all scorers.  Ryan Pittman followed with 18 points and eight assists while Jaqhawn Walters produced 10 points 11 rebounds and two blocks in 40 minutes of action for Albertus Magnus. 

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 38 percent (27-of-71) from the field, 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from three-point range and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Albertus Magnus hit on 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the floor, 45 percent (9-of-20) from beyond the arc and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the charity stripe.  The Falcons won the boards battle, 44-41, while Old Westbury scored 16 second-chance points off 16 offensive rebounds.  Albertus Magnus held the advantage in steals (10-7), blocks (6-1) and assists (21-14).
