OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) The SUNY Old Westbury Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), in association with Student Government Association (SGA) and the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement (CSLI), teamed up to host the annual 2.89 mile Turkey Trot run/walk on campus November 18.

All participants donated non-perishable food items as their required entry fee and were rewarded with a great feeling for helping feed locals at risk of hunger during the holiday season.  Later in the afternoon, all collected items were delivered to Island Harvest to support its Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign (click here for more information), which runs November 1-December 30..

In total, Old Westbury collected 126 pounds of non-perishable food items for Island Harvest.

Island Harvest, Long Island's largest hunger relief organization, strives "to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island," as noted in its mission statement.

The top three finishers (Joseph Cueter, Jonah Wegener and Richard Carrero-Sagona) from the race received freshly baked pies!

The mission of the NCAA and SUNY Old Westbury's SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
