Stanley leads @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball past Mount Saint Vincent, 70-59

Jamail Stanley’s 25 points led all scorers in Saturday’s Skyline Conference road win

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball captured a 70-59 Skyline Conference road win Saturday over the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins inside Peter Jay Sharp Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (15-7) improves to 14-3 in the conference standings while sending the Dolphins (8-15) to 7-11.

After both teams missed on their opening three shots, Old Westbury and Mount Saint Vincent each landed three pointers to open the scoring books three minutes into play.  Mike Mulligan sank a free throw to give the Dolphins a 4-3 lead before Jamail Stanley ran the court to lay in two of his nine first-half points to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead.  Stanley's layup ignited a 13-2 Panther run from 16:30 to 11:21 to grow the lead to double-digits, 16-6.  Old Westbury built its lead to 13 points (29-16) off Keith Lackerson's layup with 3:15 remaining as the Panthers held a 35-24 advantage at intermission. 

Mount Saint Vincent used a 14-0 second-half run from 18:44 to 15:37 to take a brief 38-37 lead.  With the game tied at 46-all,  P.J. Page drained a pair of free throws at 11:05 to spark a 16-2 Panther run to extend the lead to a game-high 14 points (62-48).  Mount Saint Vincent would trim the deficit to seven points with 1:14 remaining, but were unable to push into a higher gear to complete the comeback. 

Stanley led the charge with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the planks to go along with thee steals and two blocks.  Page followed with 17 points (4-of-9 3FG), two blocks and two assists while Luckens Victor grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.  Lylle Ryals chipped in with nine points off the bench. 

Jamir Ferebee paced the Dolphins with 21 points (10-of-12 FG) and 11 rebounds.  Jose Maestre added 12 points and Matthew Sowah scored 11.    

Old Westbury finished the afternoon shooting 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field, 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from three-point range and 57.6 percent (19-of-33) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Mount Saint Vincent hit on 28.8 percent (17-of-59) from the floor, 29.4 percent (10-of-34) from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the line.  The Dolphins won the boards battle, 46-33, scoring 20 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the advantage in steals (8-5), blocks (7-1), assists (14-12), points in the paint (26-12) and converted 22 Dolphin turnovers into 22 points.    


YESHIVA MACCABEES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road for Tuesday's (Feb. 16) Skyline Conference matchup with the Yeshiva Maccabees at 8 p.m. inside Max Stern Athletic Center.  Old Westbury will look to complete the series sweep of the Maccabees after claiming an 83-70 home win (Box Score) on February 11.
