OLD WESTBURY, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) No. 3 SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball advanced past the No. 6 St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears (7-19) Tuesday evening with a 82-72 Skyline Conference Championship first-round final inside Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, the Panthers (21-5) move into Thursday's 7 p.m. semifinal game at No. 2 Mount Saint Vincent (17-8) from Peter Jay Sharp Center in Riverdale, New York.
Old Westbury split the season series with Mount Saint Vincent, claiming victory at home, 66-63 (Dec. 12 Box Score), before falling 60-56 (Feb. 13 Box Score) on the road.

Old Westbury's 21st win of the season marked a career-best for 13th year head coach Michael Krasnoff.

Both teams traded baskets to start the game before Old Westbury used a 10-2 run to extend its lead to eight points (12-4) with 5:34 remaining in the first quarter.  The Bears chipped away and trimmed the deficit to four (22-18) heading into the second quarter.

The Bears grabbed hold of a 27-23 game with a 9-1 spurt over the opening 4:21 of second-quarter action.  Bridgid McNeill then scored two of her 12 first-half points to spark a 14-3 Panther run that closed out the final 5:39 to send Old Westbury into intermission with a 37-30 advantage.

Old Westbury's momentum carried into the second half as the Panthers went up by 21 points (56-34) by using a 21-4 run.  Kellie O'Neill's buzzer-beating 3-pointer halted the run to make it a 56-37 game at the end of three.

Alexis Lopez's layup with 8:35 remaining on the four-quarter clock stretched Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 22 points (60-38).  The Bears answered with a 15-4 spurt to trim the deficit to 11 (64-53) before Old Westbury brought its lead back to 17 by scoring eight of the next 10 points.  St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) countered with an 11-2 scoring spree to chop the deficit to single-digits, 74-66, with 1:22 left.  Old Westbury maintained control and outscored the Bears 8-6 over the final 1:17 to secure its first tournament win since February 22, 2011, when the fourth-seeded Panthers defeated No. 5 Sage, 60-58.

McNeill finished with her second double-double of the season to lead Old Westbury with a career-high 16 points to go with 13 rebounds (nine offensive) and one block.  Jasmine Robinson registered 16 points (10-of-14 FT), six steals and four assists while Raven Pentz contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists to the win.  Monique Joseph posted her first career double-double with 13 points (5-of-7 FG) and 10 rebounds.

Destiny Martino poured in a game-high 20 points in addition to grabbing 12 rebounds in defeat for the Bears.  Victoria Porcasi followed with 18 points and O'Neill added 14.

Old Westbury connected on 34.1 percent (28-of-82) from the field, 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from 3-point territory and 75 percent (24-of-32) at the free-throw line.  By comparison, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) hit on 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the floor, 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from long distance and 66.7 percent (16-of-24) at the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 63-36, scoring 23 second-chance points off 31 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers also held the edge in steals (15-13), blocks (6-3), assists (15-14), points in the paint (42-22), fast-break points (22-16) and bench scoring (27-15) while scoring 24 points off 27 Bear turnovers.
