@OW_Panthers Baseball sweeps Lehman

Old Westbury captured 16-4 and 10-9 road victories Saturday against Lehman

BRONX, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball improved to 9-3 on the season with Saturday's 16-4 and 10-9 non-conference road wins against the Lehman Lightning (2-7) at South Field in Bronx.

Game 1: Old Westbury 16, Lehman 4
Old Westbury scored early and often as Kevin Lao's (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB) infield grounder platted home Jesse Russo (1-for-3, 2 R, 2 SB, BB) for the game's initial run.  Dean Sheridan (1-for-2, 2 RBI, R) doubled the Panthers' advantage with a sacrifice fly to score Tommy Ziegen (2-for-5, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2 SB) for a 2-0 lead.

Lehman sliced the deficit in half in the bottom of the first with an unearned run off Panther starter Jeremy Charles (2-1, 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K).

Old Westbury took a 4-1 lead in the second inning as Joey Walsh (3-for-4, 6 RBI, R) laced a two-run single to score Tyler Roberts and Paul Rapoli (2-for-4, 3 RBI, R).

Lehman answered in the second with a two-out RBI single by Miguel Melendez (2-for-3, 3 RBI) to make it a 4-2 game.

Old Westbury broke the game open with a four-run third capped by Walsh's two-run single for an 8-2 lead.  Ziegen, Rapoli and Walsh all produced two-run doubles to increase the Panthers' lead to 14 as part of an eight-run sixth.

Melendez slapped a two-run single off Charles to settle the score at 16-4 in the sixth.

Starter Jose Albrincole (1-1) surrendered eight runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks in three innings in defeat for Lehman.

Game 2: Old Westbury 10, Lehman 9
Natanael Toribio (3-for-4, HR, 6 RBI, 2 R) lifted a three-run home run off Panther starter Daniel Aguilo (3-1, 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, BB, 7 K) for Lehman's early first-inning advantage.

Down 4-0 in the fourth, Sheridan (2-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI) tripled home Lao before scoring off Joe Boscia's (3-for-4, 3 RBI) run-scoring single to slice Old Westbury's deficit in half.

Two batters after Russo (2-for-5, R) doubled to extend his hitting streak to eight games, Lao (1-for-2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB) tied the game in the fifth with a two-run homer.  Rapoli's double then gave Old Westbury the lead for good by driving in Sheridan to make it 5-4.  Boscia closed out the Panthers' four-run fifth with a RBI single to score Rapoli off Lehman starter Francisco Pena (0-2, 4.2 IP 6 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 3 K).

Lehman made it a one-run game with Toribio's two-out RBI double in the fifth.

Old Westbury put the game away with four runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 10-5.  Sheridan doubled home Ziegen (2-for-5, RBI, R, 2 SB), and later scored the game-winning run off Boscia's two-out RBI single.

Panther reliever Trey Pizzutello tossed a scoreless sixth in relief of Aguilo before giving up four runs in the seventh.  Ryan Mordecai took over and recorded two outs to earn his second save of the season after entering the game with runners on first and second.
