YAPHANK, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball closed out the week with a 6-3 setback to the Eastern Connecticut Warriors (3-0) in non-conference action Sunday from Baseball Heaven.

After reaching on a two-out walk, D.J. Scavone scored off a run-scoring double by Chad Adams (3-for-4, RBI, R) to give Eastern Connecticut a 1-0 lead on Panther starter Vinny Caputo (0-1, 6 IP, 4 R, 3 BB, 3 K) in the first.

Jesse Russo (1-for-3, R), 2 SB) slapped a leadoff single up the middle to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Four batters later, Joe Boscia (1-for-3, RBI, BB) tied the game with a RBI single to score Russo in the bottom of the first.

The Warriors took a 3-1 lead in the third with Alexander White's run-scoring infield groundout followed by Scavone's RBI single.

Caputo surrendered a two-out solo home run to Alex Parkos (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) to make it a 4-1 game in the sixth.

Preston Zanon sliced Old Westbury's deficit by making it a 4-2 game in the sixth with a RBI single to score Dean Sheridan (1-for-4, R, 2B).

Joey Walsh led off the seventh with a double, and scored three batters later on a wild pitch to make it a one-score game.

Panther reliever Danny D'Onofrio gave up two runs on two hits and three walks as Eastern Connecticut settled the 6-3 score in the eighth.

Warrior starter Ron Buchetto (1-0, 5 IP, R, 5 H, 4 K) claimed the win and Sam Kosterich retired the side in the ninth to collect his second save of the season.

NEW JERSEY CITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury takes the field next on Friday (Mar. 18) in its home opener against the New Jersey City Gothic Knights. First pitch of the non-conference matchup is set for 3:30 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
