@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse duels with Manhattanville

Courtney Gallagher controlled her 100th career draw

PURCHASE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com)  SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse fell victim to a late surge Wednesday afternoon on the road as the Manhattanville Valiants (3-1) came away with the 17-16 non-conference victory from GoValiants.com Field. 

On offense, Old Westbury (1-1) got seven points from Natasha Treuman who scored five goals and dished out a career-high two assists.  Treuman added six ground balls and four caused turnovers to her stat line.  Danielle Weir also had three goals and two assists to go with four draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Courtney Gallagher totaled two goals, one assist and recorded her 100th career draw by controlling six on the day.  Taylor Guarneri, Sara Bey and Halle Johnson each scored twice, while Johnson handed out two assists and Bey contributed four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Panther netminder Ashley Gugliuzzo (1-1) finished with 12 stops to put up her second-highest save total. 

AnnaMarie Nardone paced Manhattanville with five goals and Sarah Dalsey registered seven draw controls.  Lauren Cassidy made eight saves to help preserve the Valiants.        
 
The Panthers scored first at 29:18 on a goal from Weir.  Old Westbury went up, 2-0, when Weir hit Johnson with a pass for the goal at 26:37. Treuman scored at 22:18 to give the Panthers a 3-0 advantage.  Manhattanville answered with a 4-0 run from 19:16 to 15:19 to take its first lead.  Treuman netted back-to-back goals for Old Westbury's 5-4 lead before the Valiants responded with goals at 13:49 and 10:35 to take a 6-5 lead.  Goals by Weir and Johnson put the Panthers back in front, 7-6.  Following a 2-0 Valiant spurt, Johnson found Gallagher, who rattled the cage with 1:41 showing on the first-half clock to send an 8-8 game into intermission.
 
Manhattanville came out of the break with an offensive mentality to score three straight through 3:45 to go up 11-8.  Sara Bey's goal with 25:55 remaining halted the Valiant run before Manhattanville tacked on two more goals to increase its lead to four, 13-9.  Taylor Guarneri's goal at 18:07 ignited a 5-0 Panther run capped by Weir's third score of the day for Old Westbury's 14-13 lead.  Treuman scored a pair of goals down the stretch to maintain Old Westbury's lead, 16-15, with 4:34 remaining.  After Manhattanville tied the game with 47 seconds left, Kat Reilly netted the game-winning goal with 21 seconds remaining to secure the victory.

DREW RANGERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action Saturday (Mar. 19) afternoon for its home opener against the Drew Rangers.  Opening draw is set for 12 p.m. from Panthers Park.
