@OW_Panthers Women's Lacrosse battles Drew in home opener

Old Westbury returns to action Tuesday (Mar. 22) in non-conference road action at Kean

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com)  SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse opened its home schedule Saturday with a 20-6 setback to the Drew Rangers (2-4) in non-conference action from Panther Park.

Danielle Weir broke the scoring ice 1:19 into play with her sixth goal of the season for Old Westbury's (1-2) lone lead of the game.  Morgan Mason scored three-straight goals as part of a 7-0 Ranger run.  Sara Bey found Halle Johnson on back-to-back goals at 12:10 and 9:43 to cut the Panthers' deficit to four (7-3).  Drew netted three more goals before Natasha Treuman put away her team-leading 16th score of the season to make it a 10-4 game with 4:04 remaining in the half.  Drew scored twice in the final 1:11 to take a 12-4 lead into the break.

Mason opened the second-half scoring with her fifth goal of the game before Treuman answered at 26:00 to cut the deficit down to eight (13-5).  Bey closed out Old Westbury's scoring at 12:17 to end a 5-0 Drew run.  Sarah Anderson's goal with 2:50 left settled the score at 20-6.    

Bey picked up a team-leading five ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers.  Courtney Gallagher added six draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Weir, Trueman and Johnson each controlled two draws.  Ashley Gugliuzzo (1-2) made nine saves in defeat for the Panthers.

Gianna Minogue (2-4) stopped eight shots to pace Drew to victory.  Julian Strazulo scooped up a game-high six ground balls and added four assists, four draw controls and four caused turnovers to her stat line.  Mason added three assists to her eight-point day.


KEAN COUGARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action Tuesday (Mar. 22) on the road for a non-conference battle against the Kean Cougars at 4 p.m. from Alumni Field in Union, New Jersey.
