Old Westbury improved to 11-5 on the season with 6-1 and 6-0 wins Sunday at home

OLD WESTBURY, NYĀ ---Ā (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com)Ā SUNY Old Westbury baseball (11-6) collected 6-1 and 6-0 non-conference wins Sunday afternoon over the visiting SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons (2-12) at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.

Game 1: Old Westbury 6, Oneonta 1
Daniel Svenelid (2-for-2, 2 RBI, R, BB) broke a scoreless tie with a RBI single to score Paul Rapoli (2-for-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB, BB) in the second inning for Old Westbury's early lead.Ā  Carlos Balmaceda then stepped to the plate to deliver the game-winning single that scored Svenelid to double the Panthers' advantage.

Kevin Lao tripled home Tommy Ziegen in the third inning followed by Dean Sheridan's RBI triple to make it a 4-0 game.Ā  Rapoli drove in Sheridan and Svenelid swatted a RBI double to score Rapoli to make it a 6-0 game as part of Old Westbury's four-run third inning.Ā 

Oneonta scored its lone run in the fifth on a wild pitch by Panther starter Vinny Caputo (1-1, 5 IP, 6 H 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K), who picked up his first win of the season.Ā 

Danny D'Onofrio tossed two scoreless innings of two-hit ball in relief of Caputo.Ā 

Starter James McCarry (0-2, 3 IP, 8 H, 6 R, BB, 4 K) took Oneonta's loss.

Game 2: Old Westbury 6, Oneonta 0
Sheridan opened the scoring with a RBI single to score Ziegen in the first for the game-winning run.Ā 

Old Westbury put the game away with five runs in the second inning to settle the 6-0 final.Ā  Lao's (3-for-4, 3 RBI, R) three-run triple broke the game open, and later scored on a throwing error by catcher Ryan Fay.Ā  Rapoli's RBI single pushed Sheridan across home plate to close out the scoring.

Panther starter Trey Pizzutello (1-0) allowed one hit in four innings of scoreless ball before Daniel Aguilo fanned four while scattering three over three innings to close out the shutout for his first save of the season.Ā  Ā 

BARUCH BEARCATS UPĀ NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:Ā Old Westbury returns to action at home TuesdayĀ (Mar. 22) with a non-conference matchupĀ against the Baruch Bearcats. Ā First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Ā
