OLD WESTBURY, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball (13-6, 2-0 Skyline) opened Skyline Conference play at home Saturday afternoon against the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles (8-4, 2-2 Skyline) with convincing 9-2 and 4-0 victories to improve to 4-2 at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.

Game 1: Old Westbury 9, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 2
St. Joseph's broke the scoring ice in the top of the first with Brendan Sullivan's (2-for-4) RBI single off Panther starter Jeremy Charles (3-2, 9 IP, 6 H, 2 R, BB, 10 K) to plate home Nick Girardi.

Tommy Ziegen (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB) reached base with a one-out single in the home half of the first.  Ziegen then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher James Terry before scoring off Kevin Lao's sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Tyler Roberts (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) stroked a double to score Michael Cardino in the second to put Old Westbury in front, 2-1.  Two batters later, Jesse Russo (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 R, SB) singled home Roberts to make it a 3-1 game.

Following a double by Roberts and Joey Walsh (0-for-1, 2 R) being hit by a pitch, Russo cleared the bases with a triple to extend the lead to four.  Ziegen then followed with a RBI single to score Russo for a 6-1 lead.  Two batters later, Dean Sheridan's (4-for-5, 2 RBI, SB) RBI double capped a four-run fourth inning to end Golden Eagle starter Josh Outsen's (1-2, 4 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 4 K) day.

Old Westbury's lead swelled to eight in the sixth as Lao's sacrifice grounder scored Walsh, and Sheridan's RBI single drove in Russo for the 9-1 lead.

St. Joseph's answered in the seventh with a RBI single by Ryan Walsh to score Joseph Lynn.

Charles fanned Walsh to close out the game to record his career-best 10th strikeout.

Game 2: Old Westbury 4, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 0
Old Westbury got the scoring going in the first inning with Ziegen (2-for-4, 3 RBI, R, 3 SB) advancing home on the throw after Lao stole second.

Playing in his 100th career game, Ziegen collected hit 100th career hit to make it a 3-0 contest with a two-out single to score Daniel Svenelid (0-for-1, R, 2 BB) and Walsh (2-for-2, 2 R, BB) in the second inning.

Old Westbury settled the scoring in the fourth off Ziegen's RBI single that scored Walsh from second base to conclude Golden Eagle starter Nick Girardi's (2-1, 3 IP, 5 H, 4 E, 6 BB, 4 K) outing.

Panther starter Daniel Aguilo (4-1) scattered four hits and fanned three batters to collect the seven-inning complete game shutout.
