WILKES-BARRE, PA --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse rallied late but were unable to push past the Wilkes Colonels (7-2) in Thursday's 14-13 non-conference road loss from Ralston Fields in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Madeleine Brownsey scored five of Wilkes' opening seven goals to give the Colonels a 7-1 lead with 17:41 remaining in the first half. Natasha Treuman put Old Westbury (2-5) on the board 7:58 in to make it a 4-1 game. The Panthers used a 6-0 run over the final 14:07 to send a 7-7 game into intermission. Treuman found Danielle Weir to ignite the run. Moments later Gabriella DiPierno finished Courtney Gallagher's pass to trim the deficit to four goals. Sara Bey netted back-to-back goals before DiPierno scored at 3:47 to make it a one-score game. With 1:23 remaining, Bey closed out the first-half scoring with her 10th career hat trick.

Wilkes once again opened strong by scoring three goals to take a 10-7 lead with 23:50 left. Bey would find Chelsey Hoffman for her first-career goal at 22:07. Following Tori Kerr's first of two second-half goals for Wilkes, Weir and Gallagher scored to slice the deficit to one (11-10) with 13:36 left. DiPierno responded to Kerr's second goal with her third score of the game at 9:21. Brownsey put away the game-winning goal with 3:59 remaining to put Wilkes ahead by three (14-11). Bey scored at 2:45 and 1:21 to settle the 14-13 final.

Bey finished with five goals (season high), one assist, two draw controls and two ground balls to pace the Panthers. DiPierno followed with her second-career hat trick, and Weir added five draw controls and three ground balls. Gallagher chipped in with four draw controls and Treuman contributed two. Ashley Gugliuzzo (2-5) made 10 saves and scooped a career-high seven ground balls in defeat for Old Westbury.

Tabitha Gravius stopped 11 shots to preserve Wilkes' victory. Brownsey totaled a game-high six goals while Jessyca Held followed with four goals, two assists, five draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

AUTISM AWARENESS GAME VERSUS SAGE GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Apr. 2) to open Skyline Conference play against the Sage Gators at 1 p.m. in the annual Autism Awareness Game from Panther Park.
