@OW_Panthers Baseball takes two from Finlandia

Tommy Ziegen produced a pair of multi-hit games to push his season total to five

FORT MYERS, FLĀ ---Ā (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com)SUNY Old Westbury continued play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Friday to improve to 7-2 on the young season by sweeping the Finlandia Lions (2-2), 10-1 and 9-0, from Player Development Complex #5 in Fort Myers, Florida.

Game 1: Old Westbury 10 Finlandia 1
Louis Sileno's RBI single drove in Paul Rapoli (2-for-3, 4 RBI, R) to break the scoring ice for Old Westbury in the third.Ā  Three batters later, Tommy Ziegen (3-for-4, 2 RBI, R) slapped a ground-rule double to score Joey Walsh (2-for-2, 2 R) to double the Panthers advantage.

Tyler Roberts put Old Westbury ahead by three with a RBI single to advance Dean Sheridan across home plate in the fourth inning.Ā 

Finlandia posted its lone run of the game in the fourth as Zach Koehn doubled off Panther starter Daniel Aguilo to score Luke Paul to make it a 3-1 game.Ā 

Following Walsh's leadoff triple in the fifth, Jesse Russo singled to drive in Old Westbury's fourth run.Ā  Ziegen then stepped to the plate to deliver a run-scoring double to extend the lead to four.Ā  Five batters later, Rapoli broke the game open with a three-run triple to stretch the lead to seven.Ā 

Aguilo (2-1) fanned nine batters while issuing three hits and three walks in six innings of work to snag the win.Ā  Finlandia starter Joey Krug (0-1) was dealt the loss after surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits over four innings.Ā 

Game 2: Old Westbury 9, Finlandia
Old Westbury wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Walsh (2-for-4, 2 R, SB) singled to lead off the first, and Ziegen (2-for-3, 3 RBI, R) stroked a two-run single two batters later for the early two-score lead.Ā  Old Westbury added its third run three batters later off Joe Boscia's (2-for-3) RBI single that scored Preston Zanon.Ā 

The Panthers followed with a three-run second inning as Casey Surdi's (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 3 R, BB, 3 SB) single drove in two, and later scored off a passed ball.Ā 

Ziegen drilled a RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth before Daniel Svenelid's RBI single closed out the scoring in the sixth.Ā 

Panther starter Danny D'Onofrio (2-0) dominated the Lions with a complete game effort; striking out 13 (zero walks) while scattering six hits to earn the win.Ā  Finlandia starter Patrick Coles (0-1) was hit with the loss after giving up eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits and one walk in five innings.Ā 

OTTERBEIN CARDINALSĀ UPĀ NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:Ā Old Westbury closes out play Saturday (Mar. 5)Ā at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic against the Otterbein Cardinals (5-1) in Fort Myers, Florida. Ā First pitch is set for 9 a.m. from Terry Park #1.
