Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball (15-9, 4-0 Skyline) compiled 22-1 and 17-0 Skyline Conference home wins Friday against the Yeshiva Maccabees (0-18, 0-8 Skyline) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.

Game 1: Old Westbury 22, Yeshiva 1 (7 Inn.)
Jesse Russo (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB) led off Old Westbury's first with a double, and then stole third and scored two batters later on a fielder's choice that also pushed Joey Walsh (3-for-4, 2 R, RBI, SB) across for a 2-0 lead.  Tommy Ziegen (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 3 R, SB) would cross home plate after stealing third on Dean Sheridan's infield grounder.  Old Westbury took a 6-0 lead three batters later on a two-run double by Paul Rapoli off Yeshiva starter Benjamin Barman (0-2, 4 IP, 19 H, 19 R, 15 ER, BB, K) .  Two batters later, Russo lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Carlos Balmaceda (3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R), followed by Walsh's RBI single to plate Louis Sileno for the Panthers' 8-0 lead heading into the second inning.

Balmaceda's two-out RBI single scored Kevin Lao (4-for-4, 2 R, RBI) for a 9-0 lead in the second inning. Russo singled to score two runners before Ziegen drove a two-run triple to left center to make it a 13-0 game.  Ziegen then scored on Sheridan's infield grounder to close out the second-inning scoring.

Panther starter Tyler Kapela was charged with an unearned run in the fourth as shortstop Ziegen's error allowed Rephael Rosenberg to reach base before Samuel Rhodes' two-out single made it a 14-1 game.

Lao singled home Ziegen to push the score to 16-1 during a five-run fourth.

Old Westbury tacked on three more runs in the fifth to settle the score.

Kapela (2-1) fanned five batters and scattered five hits in five innings of work to record the Panthers' win.  Reliever Raymond Winans finished the final two innings with no-hit ball.

Game 2: Old Westbury 17, Yeshiva 0 (7 Inn.)
Old Westbury put the game away early with a 10-run first inning to flex its offensive muscles.  Walsh (2-for-2, 4 RBI, 2 R) advanced home as Ziegen (0-for-3, 2 R, BB) stole second for the game's initial run.  Sheridan (3-for-3, 3 RBI, R) doubled the Panthers' advantage with a RBI triple.  Sherdian would score two batters later on a sacrifice hit by Michael Cardino for the 3-0 lead.  Three batters later, Michael Gismondi (1-for-2, 4 RBI, 2 R, BB) drilled a three-run double to push the lead to six.  Walsh added a two-run single and later scored on Sheridan's single to extend the lead to 10.

The Panthers scored five runs in the second, and Tyler Roberts (1-for-2, 3 R, RBI, 2 BB) tripled home Cardino as part of a two-run third to go up by 17.

Panthers' starter Trey Pizzutello (2-1) fired five innings of no-hit ball with nine strikeouts (zero walks) before reliever Joseph Nicoletti (2 IP, 1 H, 4 K) allowed a two-out single in the sixth to Zachary Perl for Yeshiva's lone hit.
