HACKETTSTOWN, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball (0-6) lost in straight sets (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) Wednesday evening in non-conference road action to the Centenary College Cyclones (1-7) in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
Alicia Gewirtz led the Panthers with a .667 hitting percentage by compiling two kills on three attacks.
Ruth Vargas nailed down a team-leading seven kills to go along with eight digs and one block.
Shanayia Lloyd and
Marie McKenzie followed with three kills while
Sofia Goris' 10 assists moved the offense. Goris, Lloyd and McKenzie each served one ace.
Zoey Woody captained the Cyclone offense with 24 assists while Jamie Bierbaum was on the receiving end for 10 kills in 20 swings. Woody and Amanda Fullem both served four aces while Biebaum and Valentina Suizzo followed with three.
Centenary hit .192 on 29 kills and 78 attacks compared to Old Westbury's .109 attacking percentage with 20 kills on 64 attempts. The Cyclones also finished with a 15-3 edge in aces.
ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE (L.I.) INVITATIONAL UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens play at the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Invitational Friday (Sept. 16) against the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons at 6 p.m. from Danzi Center in Patchogue, New York.
