PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball closed out play Saturday at the St. Joseph's (L.I.) Invitational against the Montclair State University Red Hawks (8-2) and the host Golden Eagles (2-6) from Danzi Center in Patchogue, New York. Old Westbury (0-9) lost in straight sets to Montclair State (25-9, 25-4, 25-7) and St. Joseph's (25-16, 25-7, 25-7).
In the opener against Montclair State,
Ruth Vargas served Old Westbury's lone ace to go along with three kills and three digs. Sophia Goris handed out three assists while
Shanayia Lloyd and
Amanda Neenan both had one. Lloyd led the way with four digs as Neenan chipped in with two.
April DiAngelo nailed down 12 kills on 14 swings to pace Montclair State. Kimberly Matlock registered 17 assists and four aces while Schyler White served six of the Red Hawks' 13 aces.
Against St. Joseph's, Vargas,
Brittany Buchanan and
Marie McKenzie each totaled two kills while Neenan followed with one. Goris once again distributed three assists to direct the offense. McKenzie led the defense with seven digs as Vargas and Lloyd contributed six and five, respectively.
Claire Urizzo registered a match-high eight kills while Jessica Monteserrato and Courtney Wickline combined for 24 of the Golden Eagles' 27 assists. Monteserrato and Danielle Senecal both served six of the host's 19 aces.
U.S. MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS AND PURCHASE COLLEGE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury opens Skyline Conference play at home Saturday (Sept. 24) against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners at 10 a.m., and later take on the Purchase College Panthers at 2 p.m. USMMA and Purchase will meet at 12 p.m.
