@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball downs St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) to extend win streak to four

Old Westbury improved to 8-2 on the season with Wednesday’s 84-68 Skyline Conference road win

BROOKLYN --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball outscored the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (4-7, 2-3 Skyline) by 13 in the fourth quarter to down the hosts 84-68 Wednesday evening in Skyline Conference action inside The Hill. Center.  

The Bears scored first before Old Westbury answered with a 13-2 spurt capped by Jasmine Robinson's layup with 3:41 left in the opening period to grab a nine-point lead (13-4).  St. Joseph's closed out the final 2:10 of the first quarter with eight unanswered points to slice its deficit to one (16-15).  The Bears would take their largest lead of the game with 7:34 remaining in the half off a 3-pointer by Victoria Porcasi that made it a 24-20 contest.  Old Westbury used a 9-1 run during the final 2:13 to take a 39-32 lead into intermission.

Robinson's triple 49 seconds into second-half play gave Old Westbury its first double-digit lead of the game (44-34).  St. Joseph's put together a 13-0 run to erase a 10-point deficit from 3:47 to 1:38 to go up by three (54-51).  The Panthers regained their composure as Tori Bellings' layup with 25 seconds left in the stanza put Old Westbury up for good, 57-56.  Bellings would later stick a jumper to ignite a 15-4 Panther run to close out the final 5:26 to extend Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 16 points. 

Robinson poured in a team-best 19 points to go along with three steals in leading the Panthers to victory.  Charlotte Renker posted her fourth double-double of the season after finishing with 18 points, 14 rebounds (tied career-high), four steals (tied career-high) and two blocks.  Ruth Vargas totaled 13 points, 13 rebounds (10 offensive) and five steals to register her fifth-career double-double.  Bellings finished with a career-best 17 points to go with six assists and six rebounds while Monique Joseph went for 10 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Porcasi led all scorers with 26 points (4-of-6 3FG) for St. Joseph's.  Destiny Marino followed with 13 points and 12 rebounds as Kellie O'Neill chipped in with 11 points. 

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 43.2 percent (32-of-74) from the field, 50 percent (2-of-4) from three-point range and 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, St. Joseph's hit on 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the floor, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc and 79.2 percent (19-of-24) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 47-30, scoring 34 second-chance points off 27 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers held the advantage in steals (18-11) and blocks (4-2) while converting 34 Bear turnovers into 45 points.
